The Tottering Van Teeters
Well, feeling a little guilty at not pitching in as much as I'd like lately, so I thought I'd offer up this rather bizarre little bonbon of a series which I believe may at least have the benefit of not being in many collections.
The Tottering Van Teeters is a set of 26 short episodes offered up on a syndicated basis beginning, apparently, in 1935, although what little documentation can be turned up shows it airing as late as 1937-1938 in locales as far distant as Australia. The radio performer John Gibson is known to have appeared. The story is the not-too-sympathetic story of the wealthy, spoiled younger generation of an industrial family wiped out financially by the Great Depression; the tone is at least a little reminiscent of Wodehouse and the Woosters but the humor is very definitely not at that level. I'll put up a couple a day... please bear with me if I miss a day or two along the way!
The Tottering Van Teeters. 1935. Program #1. Star Program Service syndication, Radio Producers Sales Co. E. T.. A fascinating Depression series about the filthy rich and goofy Van Teeters. After going broke, the Van Teeters plan to get to Europe by buying a new yacht on credit. The program's open and close were done live.
