Friday Check In
The Suspense strategy is still up in the air. It's likely it'll go 1 episode a day and it will just take 945 days, including days for the missing episodes and background about them. It won't start for a while.
The volume of backlog with the tape collection and digital files we now have is really really big. Obviously need more hands to help the process.
And then there's scanning... I'm really looking forward to all of that, especially the early years of Hello Again. I scanned some of the early convention programs... gosh they seem so very innocent...

The amp got sold out from under me. Maybe I'll be a little more realistic and start looking for a Vox AC-15. But I'm seriously considering going cheaper and digital. I played around with a Boss Katana 50 MKII a few days ago and was really impressed. But I tend to take a lot of time before making decisions on my new toys. And there's certainly no rush on this one. I wish Fender would release an updated version of the Super Champ X2 hybrid amp they used to sell.
Be safe, be well and be happy,

Happy Thanksgiving coming up for our American members. I expect to hear many tales of coma inducing eating. Pumpkin pie eating, turkey and all the trimmings mass consumption and TV watching to recover.
Then to begin the Cinnamon Bear count down to Christmas.....the good life.
Been super busy at work hence the shoddy schedule I am keeping reporting in for my Fridays. Loads of books arrived and a new bookcase to keep ahead of it all. Vinyl a plenty and a 3rd Turntable was added to the multi room HiFi setup. Fun is being had.
Stay safe and good vibes out to you all.....

Safe travels to all....

It's been busy here but fine. Tonight in Ireland is the annual toy show on TV a kind of cabaret show with singing and dancing with kids and toy tests. Its the lead into Christmas season. Always fun.
Hope everyone is recovering from good food.
Stay safe my friends...

Re: Friday Check In
I, like Space, apologize for the extended absence. It has been a very strange couple of months. On the plus side Younger Son and his Beautiful Wife Who Is Our Gratefully Like-A-Daughter came my way for Thanksgiving and made a splendid feast. Also positive, we took a sumptuous home-cooked meal to She Who Must Be Obeyed, who is STILL in rehab and was sorely missed at home, as she always is. She ate more than I've seen her consume in some time, so that is a blessing.
Our new release date is December 17, so she has a couple weeks to ramp up her residual energy and get those feets to stop failing her now. She's made progress since her hospital and rehab stay the first week in September, but I am astounded at how much of a hole her absence leaves in the house. Wise man, Space, to take such care of your lovely wife--our prayers will continue to bombard Heaven for you.
So the "kids" left yesterday, ready to put their own Christmas tree and decorate for the holidays. Now it's just me and the pup here at home, though we're persevering. Luckily my wife is just seven minutes down the road to visit every day.
I've been downloading and burning vintage movies--we'll have to get that Cobalt Screening Room up and running again, Space. I now have created Special Editions of "Bombshells" (I can get up to three short movies on one DVD, which has increased my Noir and Bombshells collections dramatically). The lesser leading ladies' collections include Merry Anders, Ann Savage, Ida Lupino, Jayne Mansfield, Mamie Van Doren, and special multi-disc collections of Sally Gray (ooh baby), Beverly Michaels, Marie Windsor, Cleo Moore, the sumptuous Allison Hayes and Mari Blanchard. Test your Bombshell knowledge on THOSE ladies, I dare you.
Hope to be back in Cobaltia with the holidays coming. Love and support and prayers to all. Space, I'll give you a call this next week and see if you're around.
Jeff

It's great to hear for you Latriv. I hope life finds you and yours well. Feel free to drop by any time.
Jeff, I hope the missus continues to improve and comes home soon. Positive vibes continue to flow your way from this end. A thought for you in the movie collecting world. Have you considered setting up a media server in the house? If you're able to stream to your preferred screen, it's a pretty simple process. I use the free version of Plex Media Server. Just set up the server software on your computer, then install their app on your streaming device and log in through your local network to the server. We love our Roku streaming TVs and one Roku stick. And the Plex app and server handle a broad variety of video formats. Hundreds of movies are available through our remotes, whenever we want them. I keep all of my movies on disks backed up on external drives. So, it's easy to rotate media if space becomes a problem on the server. I have folders on my server for movies, TV and music. Those folders are on a 4 TB storage drive in my desktop. Literally hundreds of movies and TV series' at my fingertips. And still quite a bit of room to add more.
On a related note, I've been introducing my 14 year old grandson to classic movies. Based on his interests, I started him on the swashbucklers. The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Black Swan, Dr. Blood, The Scarlet Pimpernel, The Count of Monte Cristo and more. This week, we'll be exploring a few more swashbucklers, then moving on to the Jonny Weismueler Tarzan movies. After that, I'm thinking about a few screwball comedies. So far, we've both been enjoying the adventure.
Be safe, be well and be happy,
Space

Re: Friday Check In
I am also a big fan of Plex for movies, old TV shows and a rotating collection of current shows. My Movie collection is around 500 so far. I have an 8TB drives for recordings (including my OTR) and a second 10TB drive for nightly backups. I keep another pair of 10TB drives in a fireproof safe for doing monthly backups.
With big drives getting so cheap it has made DVD backups obsolete for me. Even bigger drives are so cheap for cyber sales right now I am tempted to go bigger but I haven't filled what I have yet. Fresh backups can take awhile but the differential backups are not bad.
If you have a fast enough uplink to outside world you can watch stuff in the Plex library from anywhere. I connected at my Sister In-law's 300 miles from my Plex server this past week. Have also watched on camping trips over a cellular connection. This Summer I upgraded the home service from DSL to StarLink and and really enjoying the faster connection to the world.

Anyway, Â I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving. Â Ours was nice. Â We had a house full of people. Â The food was good and the company better. Â Then the weekend was great too. Â My wife and I both went to Purdue which is where I met her. Â I spent the weekend watching the Boilers beat Indiana in football and watching us beat both Gonzaga and Duke in basketball.
Hard to believe Thanksgiving is over and Christmas is approaching fast.

Boss, the wife is doing well right now. She had an ear infection last week. When I went to pick up her prescription for antibiotics, I bought her a pacifier and put it in the bag of meds. She promptly threw it at me.

Then a couple of weeks ago I got my finger in the table saw. Â It looks like it's going to heal well, but it's still numb on the very tip. Â Hopefully the nerve will grow back. Â
And finally, my wife and I are just getting over what I suspect was COVID...again. Â
So, I'm looking forward to returning to normal. Â Take care everyone.

Re: Friday Check In
But here and now, we've been trying to not freeze our a**es off. We haven't been above freezing for two days and don't expect to see the high side of freezing for another two days. This is quite the experience for a simple born and raised Florida transplant. Add in rolling blackouts and no broadband for 36 hours, and you get a solid NO vote from me. At least it could have snowed and given some nice views. But enough about that. We're well stocked, warm and entertained.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!
That's what we celebrate in our house, so that's the greeting you receive from me. But I hope that whatever you celebrate is a joyous occasion. And please try to reach out to those you know, who may be alone during the holidays. What we give has far greater worth than what we receive.
Be safe, be well and be happy,

Once again we are heading into a new year full of uncertainty. Only constant is change. Now more than ever we need to hold tight to family, good friends and weather the storms ahead.
Have a Happy New Year everyone and may the wind stay at your back and the road rise to meet you.
With all the crazy storms and madness I wish you all good health.
Stay safe my friends...

Some details are at...
https://cobaltclubannex.forumotion.com/t456p550-suspense-upgrades#22726
The Suspense project has gotten more complicated, and I really could use some help. I need to organize my Cobalt posts for Suspense into the Suspense log. I've done so much writing episode by episode that needs to be repurposed that a spreadsheet of the log and links to the Cobalt posts would really help me out.
We are finding so much general HQ stuff in these pioneer collections now that I've considered just going on hiatus for a year to get it all organized and to start writing again (and finishing various books). But, I do really enjoy the daily interplay and I know I would miss it very much.
In the meantime -- have a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2023!

Back from family in N.C. - where the water froze, and the power went out, because it was single-digit cold! (And yet, some still tell us there's been no Climate Change...)
Seamus, and gang, I wish you all of the above. With the addition from this person of Faith (with no insult meant to those not so), of a consciousness of the Divine.
Blessed New Year!

Enjoyed a family Christmas gathering before the storm that froze Ohio, and will have another tomorrow. Winter-Term teaching starts Monday! Yikes!
But, the break has let me get back to work on my Dennis Day project, and I'm making good progress again. Hopefully my full draft will be done soon. I never expected something book-length when I started.
Grace Gibson Productions put all their Night Beat sets on sale, so I've been enjoying listening to the Australian Night Beat. Not as good as Frank Lovejoy, but still enjoyable.
Happy New Year!

Re: Friday Check In
We're finally down to counting the hours. As I'm typing this, my oldest son is preparing to board a flight from Honolulu to Huntsville, Al. He has officially retired after 20 years of service in the US Army and will be on his way home. We're very proud of both he and his younger brother, who had to take a medical retirement 8 years ago. At one point, we had at least one son "in zone" for 6 1/2 years continuously. That was more than a bit stressful for their mom and me. But it's finally come to it's end and we have a few adventures already planned (as I mentioned in a previous post).
I would like to thank each and every member for another good year here at The Cobalt Club. As I've said before, it's amazing how much you can come to care about a bunch of people you've never actually met. My description of our members is dedicated and generous. I'm so very happy to be associated with all of you. And I'd like to wish each of you a very Healthy, Happy and Prosperous New Year.
