There's one we can take off the Goldin list...and another one where an error was found...

72470. It Pays To Be Ignorant. April 6, 1945. Program #34. CBS net origination, AFRS rebroadcast. The first question (at the opening): "Do you believe in clubs for women?" The first question (during the program): "In the nursey rhyme, 'There was an old woman who lived in a shoe,' where did the woman live and many did she have of what she didn't know what to do with?" Lulu McConnell steps out of character to ask servicemen listening on AFRS to write to her. Tom Howard, George Shelton, Lulu McConnell, Harry McNaughton, Ken Roberts, Nat Novick and His Orchestra. 30:06. Audio condition: Very good to excellent. Complete. (Still need this one...but there is good news tonight... Summer 1951 DeSoto Plymouth sponsored broadcast found "After what South American Republic is the Panama Canal found?"... We still need to tack a date on this one...)

45626. It Pays To Be Ignorant. September 18, 1948. CBS net. Sustaining. The first question (in the body of the show) is, "What do we eat with a salad fork?" ("What Is a Blotter?" the opening question in intro) The program's guest is Billy Hinds. This famous minstrel is eighty-years-old and has been fifty-eight years in show business! Tom Howard, Harry McNaughton, Lulu McConnell, George Shelton, Ken Roberts (announcer), Billy Hinds, The Townsmen Quartet. 29:48. Audio condition: Very good. Complete. (No longer needed)

IPTBI - 481023 Why Is a Man Like a Worm should be dated 500913 (99709. It Pays To Be Ignorant. September 13, 1950. CBS net. Sponsored by: DeSoto-Plymouth. The first question (at the opening) is, "Why Is A Man Like A Worm?" The first question (during the program) is, "In what town in Pennsylvania did Lincoln make his Gettysburg address?" Tom Howard, Harry McNaughton, George Shelton, Lulu McConnell, Richard Stark (announcer), The Five Clefs, The Townsend Quartet. 29:44. Audio condition: Excellent. Complete. )

We need this one
85786. It Pays To Be Ignorant. October 23, 1948. CBS net, WCBS, New York aircheck. Sponsored by: Sustaining, Bulova (local). The first question (at the opening): "Why is a man like a worm?" The first question (during the program): "Who painted Rembrandt's self-portrait?" Tom Howard (m. c.), George Shelton, Lulu McConnell, Harry McNaughton, Herb Polesie (director), Ken Roberts (announcer). 29:11. Audio condition: Very good. Complete.

How the heck did I not catch the error in my 450511 file???

The common error will be dated 440512... That will be corrected ASAP...

The vetted set could be found here...even though it is more on the LQ side...

Thanks for the correction on 481023 being 500913. I will rename mine. After searching my archives I do have the 481023 Rembrandt's one. I got it from Jerry Haendiges. I will get it posted in a couple of days and post here when it is available. This will make 75 that I now have. You can never have too many.

According to Goldin's list...these are the ones currently searching for a few more good listeners...and should bring us up to 79 (or 80...if we're lucky) episodes...

50497. It Pays To Be Ignorant. August 11, 1944. Program #11. CBS net origination, AFRS rebroadcast. The first question (at the opening) is, "What is an optimist?" The first question (during the program) is, "After what Central American country is the Panama Canal named?" Al Trace and His Orchestra are announced at the beginning of the program as providing the music, but Nat Novick and His Orchestra are introduced during the broadcast. The program opening may have been taken from AFRS #16 (dated August 25, 1944), which has the same optimist question (see cat. #72469). George Shelton, Tom Howard, Harry McNaughton, Lulu McConnell, Nat Novick and His Orchestra, Ken Roberts (announcer). 29:54. Audio condition: Very good. Complete.

72917. It Pays To Be Ignorant. December 1945. CBS net origination, AFRS rebroadcast. This recording is part of "To The Rear March," (see cat. #6756). Tom Howard (m. c.), George Shelton, Harry McNaughton, Lulu McConnell. 10 minutes

22805. It Pays To Be Ignorant. March 13, 1949. CBS net. Sustaining. The first question is, "What state is St. Louis, Missouri in?" Tom Howard, George Shelton, Harry McNaughton, Lulu McConnell, Ken Roberts (announcer), Harry Salter and His Orchestra, Bert Wheeler. 1/2 hour. Audio condition: Excellent. Complete.

The "Revolver" must be early 1945...but I'm still looking for a definitive date on that going through musical emails with Carnegie Hall's archivist... I know it can't be May 18th as they had dark dates every Friday from that date to the end of the year... They did state however that there is no record of anything in 1945 from January to March of that year...let alone on Friday nights when IPTBI aired at that time... I have it listed as 450500 for the time being...but watch it be in that period of the missing Carnegie Hall archives...

The It Pays to be Ignorant 450511 Is It Bad Luck to Postpone a Wedding AFRS has been previously circulating under the date of 440512. Radiogoldindex gives the 450511 as the correct date. This was mentioned earlier in the thread by razz. BTW, I believe I have 77 unique shows of IPTBI.

I checked the set by bforsberg and got a few fills...but I also noticed a couple of errors here and there... I'm just waiting for the 481023 "Rembrandt" correction for #77...

I have a horrible thought here...

Could that "Revolver" be March 21st 1947??? The description of the March 28th show from the Miami Herald gives me a sinking feeling that this might be the show in question...

"Boris Morros, producer of the United Artists' movie 'Carnegie Hall' will be guest of Tom Howard and his 'experts'"...

Don't know if anyone is still monitoring this It Pays To Be Ignorant thread or not. But, I just won an auction on an AFRS disk of IPTBI. The disk was pretty badly scratched up but it is at my website below with the date 4/26/1946 What Is An Echo. I could not find this show in general circulation. It is at:
