This episode has never circulated as a complete recording. Gee, Lloyd Bridges as a skin diver? Who would have thought? Sea Hunt was already in full swing by the time this episode was broadcast. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Re: Suspense Upgrades
My last upgrade of this program was more than ten years ago! This is why getting those reels has been such a boost to this effort. The commonly circulating program has the WROW station ID at the open, but this does not. This version has the added bonus of Richard C. Hottellet news at the end. There are two recordings posted here, one is the lightly adjusted recording from the reel and the other more aggressively processed for background noise. Most all of the upcoming posts are noise processed files, and most of those will are paired with the unprocessed file. There are 18 episodes left to post in this group, and then about 10 more in a different group after that. Not sure what series I will jump to when all of these Suspense items are done (for now).
Sorry for the spelling error in Lyle Sudrow's name at the end. Sometime in 2019 I expect to finally rename the files in a more consistent and modern manner. These are still the file names from the original OTRNow set that I got in 2004 or 2005 and I just appended notes at the end as I found each new upgrade or version.

Re: Suspense Upgrades
This is just the processed file. The original on tape sounded exactly like the one that's been in circulation, so it did not really add to upgrade process. But processing a file that has never been encoded yields a better processing result because it has all of the audio data to work with.

Re: Suspense Upgrades
This post is out of episode order. I found another file on a reel that sounded exactly like the quality-impaired file that has been in circulation. I took a try at cleaning the recording up since it is a freshly encoded file. I think it came out well.

A newspaper clipping for this episode was posted earlier. Since then, some others have been found.
This last clip mentions Walter Black's play Money to Burn. That play was performed in 1951 on Goodyear Television Playhouse. No recording exists as far as I could find. Black was a prolific scriptwriter with many of his efforts on 1960s and 1970s television. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Those efforts included an episode of Jonny Quest!
Curiosity: The episode was Double Danger. The Jonny Quest DVD set sometimes used closing credits from other episodes and making the DVD set less authoritative than they seem. Black's name is not in what are purported to be the actual credits that were edited out of the DVD. Here is a video of those closing credits: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Â
I had a discussion about this with Martin Grams a few years ago, and he had placed the DVD and the original films created for the series side by side, episode by episode, and noted many disparities. IMDb gets its writing credits from the Writers Guild union and not always from the screen credits. Did Black write this Jonny Questepisode? Very strange!
Virginia Payne was the lead in Ma Perkins for 27 years, and became radio's highest paid actress. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
She was interviewed by Bertel & Corcoran in 1973 [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] She died at age 67 from cancer four years after the interview.

Whitfield Connor obit from the New York Times
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Eleazar Lipsky was one of the more fascinating writers for Suspense. He was an assistant district attorney in Manhattan in the 1940s and had a successful law career, but he was most known by the public was as a successful novelist. His most famous work is the story that was adapted to become the movie Kiss of Death, for which he received an Academy Award nomination. This is his obit from the NYT:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Â A movie based on his novel The People Against O'Hara was adapted for Lux Radio Theatre and broadcast on 53-03-09; the only circulating copy is an AFRS Hollywood Theater version.
There were three Suspense episodes written by him, Infanticide 59-10-11, this episode of The Thimble, and End of the Road 60-01-31. The latter is a different story than the 47-02-06 program that used the same title. Lipsky's End of the Road was originally used on Indictment, a late 1950s CBS series held in high regard but of which there are very few episodes in circulation. If anyone has episodes of this series it would be good to assemble and properly label them. I seem to have 6 of them, most all with some sound issues.

This script is by Robson, and based on the locale of the story may be another script adapted from his Mutual series with Errol Flynn, The Modern Adventures of Casanova. We know for certain that Star of Thessaly was re-used from that series. There are very few details about episodes of the series.
There are some descriptions at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

A series contract amendment with Flynn's signature is up for sale [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] ... the text of the contract indicates that when Flynn was in town they recorded multiple episodes for future airing (this is similar to the way Bold Venture was produced). The series ran from January 1952 to January 1953 including a summer break.
There is only one episode in circulation, and it is in very bad sound. I've cleaned it up and made it tolerable sound-wise (but not performance-wise). It can be downloaded for the next few days (get it now!) at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
