Radio With Pictures

Post by airlanes on 11/6/2018, 2:48 pm

In the early days of television, a considerable number of radio shows were adapted for the home screen.  Some are well known and met with success like Jack Benny, Gunsmoke and Ozzie and Harriet.  Others fell short of expectations.  I thought I might upload a few examples of the more forgotten and obscure series.  So here are four obscure TV episodes of Himan Brown's 1954 Inner Sanctum series.  There were originally 39 episodes and the pilot.  If enough interest exists, I'll upload examples from other forgotten series that fell by the wayside.

Thanks! I recognized Ralph Bell's voice from the CBSRMT. Very cool to see him "live".

Bold Venture

Post by airlanes on 11/10/2018, 12:28 pm

It seems like there is some interest in these old TV versions of OTR programs.  Here is another interesting series;  Bold Venture was a 1959 TV version of the much better known radio series.  The TV remake starred Dane Clark and Joan Marshall.  I have 8 episodes.  Enjoy.

Fibber McGee & Molly

Post by airlanes on 11/13/2018, 12:25 pm

In 1959, NBC presented a televised version of radio's Fibber McGee & Molly.  The TV series featured Bob Sweeney and Cathy Lewis.  It was an interesting attempt to recapture the original but a decidedly pale imitation.  Here are five episodes from the TV effort:

Adventures of the Falcon

During 1954-1955, The Adventures of the Falcon made an appearance on the home screen.  Mike Waring picked up more or less where he left off on radio a couple of years before, working for Amy Intelligence.  Here are 8 episodes from that TV incarnation:

Post by airlanes on 12/5/2018, 12:27 am

The Man Called X came to television in 1956 and stuck around for 39 episodes.  Here are 28 of those episodes.  For the TV series, Barry Sullivan was Ken Thurston aka The Man Called X.
