This is the episode that one of Cobaltia's heroes, Shadowsmom, noticed that one version of this script performance had Joe Kearns as the announcer and the other did not and wondered why. Being a relatively new collector at the time, Shadowsmom asked the innocent question... but no one had the answer. That led to the realization that this was one of many surviving pairs of recordings from the twice a week Roma Wines sponsorship that lasted about 10 months. It proves that actually listening to the programs (gasp!) adds a lot to our understanding of the radio era. Veteran collectors can miss this kind of stuff -- which underscores the importance of the role of new collectors who look at things with fresh eyes. Thank you, Shadowsmom, for your steadfast curiosity!
And why was Kearns on the Thursday and not on the Monday? He went on vacation!

Re: Suspense Upgrades
Here's more on the Suspense-movie connection from 1945-02-04 Lubbock TX Avalanche-Journal. Most of these did not work out. There's not one here that became a movie except for "Walls Came Tumbling Down" and that was a successful novel prior to the show. "The Visitor," based on the novel which was then brought to Suspense in May 1944, is mentioned as headed to Broadway with Eddie Bracken. Playbill says otherwise [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Bracken was not in the cast. The show had only 23 performances spanning mid-October through the first few days of November of 1944. Yet another case where the Suspense adaptation was likely better than a viewable performance?
As best I can research, there are still only four original Suspense scripts that were not published prior as novels or short stories, that made it to the screen:
If any one knows of these other scripts becoming movies within the time frame of Suspense's popularity, please let me know!

This was also adapted for television for Alfred Hitchcock Presents, season 4, episode 29, and is one of the episodes directed by Hitch himself. The episode seems to be studied by budding directors for its high shots and other techniques that were perfected by Hitchcock.

Re: Suspense Upgrades
Now, Greybelt, G-R-E-Y-B-E-L-T, presents two versions of "The Man Who Knew How," an AFRS recording from disc and an upgraded West Coast recording. From what I have seen so far, the AFRS recordings of the 2x/week Roma run are Thursday performances.

Re: Suspense Upgrades
Hi folks -- because there's no "thanks" button on this version of the forum software, I don't have any idea about how many people are enjoying (or even not enjoying) these posts.
Can you send me an email to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to let me know OR send me a private message here on Cobaltia? If you send an e-mail please be sure to mention your Cobalt Club "handle."
I'm not compiling an email list.
(BTW, mail.com has free email service with lots of domain names to choose from -- that's how I got a collector.org address!)
