It appears that the shows on Sep 22 and 29 were pre-empted. Here are the next two I have. Tomorrow I will be reverting to one a day again.

Today's show is the last one I have for quite a while. I have nothing for 1942 and only one for 1943, which I will post tomorrow. Dave Goldin, on the other hand, lists quite a few. I have asked my OTR friends for other shows but nobody seems to have any for this time period. One of my Scandinavian contacts told me that BMG has most if not all locked away but they are a tightly held secret, quite why I don't know. Although they hadn't a sponsor for ages, the BLUE network was very proud of this show and so it is likely that copies were kept of all the programs. Any takers?

Oh no, say it isn't so. I've been looking forward to hearing more of my good friend Ward Byron and his Five Foot Book of Shelves. I could swear I've heard more than two shows with his commentary. Let's hope someone somewhere has the January 1942 shows!

It's so I'm afraid. This next post is an AFRS version, in which it is obvious that the classy nature of the shows previously posted has been destroyed, IMHO of course. Milton Cross is now the host and 'comedy' skits have been brought in between the numbers, which are no longer barrelhouse, boogie or the blues but merely 'popular'. NBC did the same thing with the Fitch Bandwagon as it went through the middle 40's.

As occasionally happens with an AFRS disc of a network show, there has been a bit of confusion with the show . The AFRS notes I have from my contact in Scandinavia has this as AFRS 1, however I have a copy of the disc label that this show came from and as you can see it's clearly labeled #2.

Have no idea what the network # is on this one, but obviously they had picked up sponsorship somewhere along the line.

This next one I have a copy of the label and my friend who owns the disc verified the date for me. Unfortunately I don't have a flac for it yet.

Yes you did lasombra - sorry about that. My short term memory is going to pot. This next one is the file I thought you posted. Logically it would be AFRS 023 but I don't have the label so I can't confirm the #.

Yes, I had posted this one, too, a couple of days ago and again with the wrong date. From now on I'll ask first! So, I have a show dated 1-30-44. On it Milton Cross's life is threatened and Mr. & Mrs. North show up. The first song is an instrumental that I don't know the name of. Might the date be correct?
P.S. It has an AFRS number of 19.

OK - go ahead and post it. The 44-01-30 show does have Mr & Mrs North and the first number should be Overture To A Peasant.
Although the AFRS # is likely 019, as we have seen previously without the label we can't verify it.

Here we go again, CDM. I have a show dated 6-25-44, AFRS 40. It says the first song is "I've Got You under My Skin" but it's an unannounced instrumental so I can't confirm. Then Vernon Brown, a trombonist, plays "I'm Coming, Virginia", followed by Victor Borge who reads letters and plays Shoo Shoo Baby. Then Nan Wynn makes her second appearance of the show. Hope that's enough to identify the show.

That certainly describes the show! I assume that the date under the clipping is just a typo and you meant 1944-06-25.

Thanks again lasombra, I just listened to that show amd much as I like Victor Borge and Brahms' Lullabye, I don't think either of them should be in a true Basin Street show. I think perhaps the radio audience for the program must have been on the decline as I post this next one.
