Thanks to all for your supportive comments... OTR has been a great source of friends for many decades for me, and remains so...

There are two versions of this episode in circulation. This one has decent sound with no commercials. The other is a very LQ version with commercials but has no opening. Still on the hunt for a complete, nice sounding copy.

No newspaper listings for this one. You can find Suspense listed in the timetables, but it's harder and harder to find teaser plot summaries.

Suspense Upgrades Empty Re: Suspense Upgrades

Post by greybelt Fri 4 May - 0:35

The link to that missing episode is at
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

These are abridged notes I posted on that FB thread:

This script was done FOUR times on Suspense. First it was "Nobody Ever Quits" on 1955-03-08. Then it got the "Red Mountain" title for this performance broadcast on 1957-09-15. This one has Crenna and Anne Diamond. It was done again with Crenna and Doris Singleton broadcast on 1959-01-11. There are many old compilations of the Suspense series on reel and low encode mp3 that have this 1959 broadcast in the spot of the 1957 one. This is the real thing. Then it was done again in New York with Mandel Kramer and broadcast on 1960-11-20. There were many old Suspense sets that even had this episode in the 1957 spot! But here's what Jerry's referring to -- there's ANOTHER copy of this 1957 episode that is around that was a later release by AFRTS that has different "commercials"! So in the span of about ten days TWO copies of this missing program came to light. This one has the first AFRTS announcement about counterfeiting. The later one, probably released by AFRTS in the 1960s has "Communism" as its first announcement topic. Being a Suspense "completist" I'm THRILLED to have both! The AFRTS audience loved Suspense from the years of its initial run and through the 1980s. Surveys of listeners always had it at the top of their list of favorites. Many service personnel were deployed in regions that did not have television in the 1970s and 1980s, so service personnel and their families got a taste of radio's golden age with Suspense as its own program or as "Adventure Theater" or other titles. Suspense fit the bill very well for what AFRTS needed because of its anthology format that gave the stories a longer broadcast life while other entertainment formats could sound dated rather soon. Because it was so well-liked, the many AFRTS releases over the years ensured that much of the late 1950s era shows would not otherwise exist for us today.
Let's give Mr H a special round of applause for sharing this missing episode, but let's not forget it was through his efforts that another missing episode, "This Was a Hero," was made available. That episode was performed only once, so finding that was extraordinarily special! If you missed it, look for it at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] on the Sept 17, 2017 broadcast.

This is a link to that second version of the AFRTS release; I think it has cleaner sound. The AFRTS number is probably somewhere in the 940s or 950s, but there is no label image available to verify that.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

But I am happy to share both as I'm the Cobaltian Completist!
