I really don't know why this series interests me so much. Perhaps it just shows the history and excitement of the early days of flight and combines it with the adventure of the comic books of my youth? It could also be that I am just drawn to shows like I Love a Mystery, Jungle Jim, etc., and this fits with those.

Thanks again for these. I am really enjoying them. It's also a good example of why to not trust wikipedia for everything. The article there says that the show ran into the 1950's.

Wikipedia might not be wrong, Gordon. As a syndicated series it's tough to say exactly when it was aired or how often. With 65 episodes at 5 a week you'd have a nice 13 week summer filler so the prospect of someone running it into the 50's is not unrealistic.

And now we start winding down to the conclusion

Episode 60   Bobby Is Reunited With Friends
"Bobby Baker and the native boy Sawonga are rescued from the lion pit by George Ross the man that Dr Tyler has brought Aunt Hattie"

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Episode 61  Sawonga Confronts Dr Tyler
"Back once more with the safari of Dr Tyler Bobby Baker tells Aunt Hattie about his meeting with George Ross"

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Episode 62  Sugar Loaf Hill
"Dr Tyler head of the Tyler Sanitarium at Springfield has been exonerated by little Sawonga the native lad "

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Only 3 more to go

You are probably right about the syndication but wikipedia does state that it started airing in 1932 so I mistrusted it. There is a picture with the following text "Advertisement for the syndicated Ann of the Airlanes from the September 25, 1950 edition of the Gastonia Gazette (Gastonia, North Carolina) informing listeners of the series on Gastonia's station WGNC."

This is it folk, no more Ann that I could find although the last episode gives the impression that there are more episodes to follow. Maybe just wishful thinking on their part.  Anyway, here they are

Episode 63   Ancient Temple Spotted
"Pete Kay and Zeb marooned with the Air Cat Speed plane stop at Sugar Loaf Hill near Lake Dilolo in Africa hear the talking drums"

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Episode 64  Dr Tyler Captured
"As Pete Kay and Zeb start to escape from the savage Yuga people they meet George Burton?

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Episode 65  Ann's Telegram
"Investigating a small building near the ancient temple in the taboo land Pete Kay and George Burton"

Ann of the Airlanes - Page 2 Empty Re: Ann of the Airlanes

Post by Gordon Johansen 5/21/2019, 1:17 am

After finally finishing the complete run of Challenge of the Yukon, I immediately started Ann of the Airlanes since I had been looking forward to it for months. The sound for the majority of the episodes is awesome. There's a couple where one voice is perfectly clear and the next is fuzzy but they are so much better than the originals overall.

I did notice that for some reason, episode 29 is a copy of episode 28 so I thought I should point it out as I didn't see it mentioned here yet. The title of 29 is correct but the content is the same as 28 so I'm guessing it was just a file copy error.

Thanks again for the great job with these.

Thanks for letting me know. REALLY sorry about the delay in responding. I just got a little backed up here with one project or another. The mistake was totally mine. Somehow when cross referencing how a file was originally labelled ( ep 29 WAS labelled as ep 17 ) and what the file really was, I screwed it up.

Anyway, here's the link to the correct file for Ann Of The Airlanes 1935-xx-xx (29) Who's In Charge - Jack Or Vic

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I've also updated the link in the original post.

all the links are still valid in case any of the more recent CC members are interested

Downloaded it just now Geezer. Thanks for fixing this. I figured it was something simple and just wanted to let you know about it. No worry about the delay. This show was worth waiting for and I've really enjoyed listening to it.

Finally finished this fun show. It blows me away how good the quality is considering it is 85 years old. If you went back another 85 years, events like the Civil War, the Indian Mutiny, and the Crimean War had not even occurred yet.

The last show certainly does imply that they wanted to do more but it also felt like they were suddenly cleaning up a huge number of plot hooks that would have normally taken much longer to resolve. At least they did this much for listeners. I think the only major hole was who "Doc" really was. Since he was taken and likely eaten by cannibals, I guess we'll never know.

I just got around to looking at this program and Geezer's offerings a bit further and found a couple of items perhaps of a little interest...

--  an article by Karl Schadow about the series which is illuminating but leaves original broadcast dates in doubt (though he mentions the first four scripts having been copyrighted in 1937 and debunks the possibility of 1932):  http://www.radiorecall.com/rr2015_10/Ann.htm

--  I searched a newspaper archive and found no instance of the title prior to 1940.  There is a brief "new program" announcement in the Oklahoma City Daily Oklahoman on February 13, 1940, and they then published this nice photo and blurb on February 25:
