Nuthin' new to report here. It's gonna be a boring weekend. Maybe I need a new hobby. My wife has a hobby. She's doing a survey, in order to find out how many Amazon delivery drivers work in Central Florida. We've had two deliveries today, with a third scheduled for later.

Seamus, the TANSTAAFL tee arrived Tuesday and I love it. It's a medium weight high thread count 100% cotton tee shirt. The graphics are silk screened and gorgeous. I'll definitely order one or two more in the future. Two thumbs up.

Space that sounds good. I remember as a kid wanting a space suit so bad. After reading that book I thought all there seemed to be needed for a space career was a suit. Now I realise its a bit more complicated than that.

Now after finding Ryan Nagata I can now get my very own Apollo era suit or a suit of my own design.

https://ryannagata.com/

The cool stuff you find. Space you and Jeff get one and when I get there in the tunnel we shall safely social distance in our own working space suits. Which we would of course find super cool and in no way nerdy.

Boss, I'm not ashamed of my inner nerd. In fact, I let him out to play on a regular basis. Here's an example.

A couple of years ago, we had a near total solar eclipse locally. My then 10 year old grandson and I decided to view it and play a game together. We were playing Pokemon Go all over the local historic downtown area. That grandson has a 150 plus IQ. I was wearing a tin foil hat. What's the gag?

A crazy old man in a tin foil hat and his 10 year old genius grandson, were chasing and capturing invisible monsters during a solar eclipse. True story. There are pictures.

I am with you Space I know the Smart Kid routine. I was kid who could not sit still took everything apart. At 6 I was taking stuff in house apart and putting it back together. Dad's solutions get me full toolkit and soldering iron and bring home on a regular basis electronics that did not work. My room was hilarious three Tv's stacked all running different channels. CB radio going, We built our first computer together a ZX80 Kit let me tell you my Dad was not impressed but i was cranking out basic and in heaven. My Mom laughingly told me I was a pain in the ass and when I have kids I will get pay back. Then comes my daughter talking at 10 months at 6 for school project she mummified a chicken we used natron just like the Egyptians. She removed the organs we made canopic jars and she then wrapped the now mummy with wraps used herbs and honey man she was totally into this stuff. So we get to School she has four foot square board with complete process on it and pictures she taught herself to read hieroglyphs. Something she can still do at 24. So kids were in there showing this is a hat grandma gave me.  Up she gets with her Mummified chicken LOL (Did I tell you I made a sarcophagus for it.) To say the teacher was surprised LOL but the kids in the class loved it. She did her presentation that she had practiced like crazy. Then showed the kids the Mummy with unwrapping. Sign it was gold I was so proud of her and so many questions asked and good questions which proves if you push kids a little inside good education system they will rise.

So yeah proud of being a nerd and still building crazy stuff like a motorbike that has Lidar body sensing and our new project is we are taking one of my 51 Hudson Hornets and replacing the drive train with the complete electric setup from a Tesla. A company here makes these screens that replace your gauges and display your old gauges as they digitize them for you and program them in. So as I drive it will look like the 50's speedo but click a button and you can see backup camera replace speedo, click again shows battery performance. I want to put driver assisted tech in there too. Road sensing Etc. The stuff available to tinker with now is beyond amazing.... So proud card carrying member of what we would call normal ...like we can't understand why people are not making and experimenting .... zero excuse under 1K you can kit out a lab. (I accidentally spent many multiples of that. Shocked )

Friday Check In - Page 18 Empty Re: Friday Check In

Post by greybelt on 7/12/2020, 6:00 am

Been dealing with a Mrs GB vision setback here. It was all going so well until around 2 weeks ago she noticed some new distortion in her central vision in the affected eye. They imaged the eye Friday and scar tissue from the procedure in February is accumulating in a manner that is detrimental to her vision. It may stop if the body processes "think" it is finished protecting the surgery area -- or, it could keep accumulating and re-open the macular hole, but that is considered unlikely. What's more likely is that her best post-surgical vision is passed. If the scar tissue accumulates more, they may have to go in and remove it -- but thankfully no gas bubble insertion or face-down recovery.

What's so amazing is that the problem area is the size of a pinhead -- and that it can be seen with imaging technology. We're in awe of the process but the most-hopeful vision result seems to be gone.

The doctor told her to stop "testing" her vision in the bad eye by looking at things with just that eye. She must keep looking with both eyes -- the brain tries to reconcile the two information flows from the individual eyes, one distorted, one correct, into a single correct image in your mind. It's all so incredible how it all works.

Next visit in October.

Had a karate class outdoors yesterday. Was good to see everyone -- there's only so much you can do on video conference but most all of us have been practicing so we still "had it" when it came to executing. But karate without touching each other to learn to block and punch and grapple is empty of core purpose of self-preservation techniques. It's like learning to drive from reading a book with no pictures. There's so much stuff to learn so all of us can be kept occupied with improving our skills and knowledge for a long time. There will be a mix of in-person classes and video in the Fall. One step at a time...

Greetings all... spirits to be lifted this weekend with meaningless baseball exhibition games with real players... and the real games start at the end of next week... hope it all gets that far...

Mrs GB coming along okay, reconciled herself to the idea of another surgery months from now and the likelihood of less than spectacular results. I guess that's good for now in terms of aligning expectations to a more realistic baseline and then working from there.

The days continue to mush together, and we know what day it is by what's left in the daily vitamin and pill container. Happy Tuesday everyone! Is it still June? Smile

Sending good vibes for Mrs GB as I have been watching progress in eye surgery some of the new treatments are going to be amazing like injecting stem cells into the eye to repair damage and yes this is coming.

Same here for me all the days seem the same. Its summer so we get in the walks and laugh a lot and the doggo helps he is not worried about much except his food and snacks so I am adopting that philosophy.

Vinyl books and work is my usual week. As my good friend John said "I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round"

Well, for once I am actually excited about this being the weekend. Last night I watched the first of three new movies from Larry Blamire I ordered--this one was the sequel to *The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra* called *The Lost Skeleton Returns Again* (my commentary will be up shortly).

I also received *Dark And Stormy Night* and have *The Trail Of The Screaming Forehead* coming in the next couple days. And if that's not enough, having finished half of Peter Swanson's new novel *Eight Perfect Murders*, I'll finish that up and start in on Larry Blamire's novel *Doc Armstrong: Suburb At The Edge Of Never*.

With the weather hitting 100 degrees with high humidity, this is my idea of chilling out. Hope all will be well and safe.

Well ain't that a fine kettle of fish! I spent three and a half months on lockdown and gained 15 pounds. Went back to work for a month and lost most of that 15 pounds. Now I start a two week vacation, for which the trip was cancelled. So, now I'm effectively back on lockdown for two more weeks. My logic's probably not the only thing that'll end up circular.

Being both an optimist and a cynic, I'm gonna throw the optimism at Mrs. GB and hold out for a much better end result than she anticipates. And I'll toss a cynical grenade in the direction of the opti-ma-whatcha-callists and believe they'll end up with professional egg on their faces, as Mrs. GB proves em' wrong.

If anyone needs me, I'll be watching cartoons.

Be safe and be well.

Yippeee got two big boxes of vinyl I ordered who knows when. At this point when stuff arrives I am like a kid at christmas. No idea what it is or when i ordered it.

Its been a muggy hot week here with some epic rain storms that I have enjoyed. My home office is in the attic so I am close to the action and I open the three skylights to hear it all. Its top notch entertainment. Thor knows how to put on a great show.

Finished Miss Scarlet and the Duke a really good Victorian mystery show. Also finished the final series of Dark the German Sci-Fi was not happy with the ending but won't run spoilers here until every single person on CC with a Netflix subscription has seen it.

Books read and tonight is baking night. Got Two crumbles ready to go in plus a chocolate lava cake. That will keep me in treats for about an hour Rolling Eyes

Whats everyone up to ?

Stay safe and enjoy the summer which is just steaming by in my book...

Post by Space Cadet on 7/24/2020, 6:52 pm

Almost half way through my vacation/quarantine and sprouting roots. Been watching a lot of anime again (23 episodes deep into Attack on Titan) and finalizing plans to finally start a project I've been planning for a while. Gonna cure and smoke my own bacon. I've got two whole pork bellies, Czech Powder, salt, whole pepper corns, three kinds of wood chunks and a smoker (like I'd live life without one). The bellies have been divided into two each and trimmed. The plan is to do three separate smokings. One each with hickory, apple and cherry woods. But I may add some oak to my list of woods and try a fourth smoke with that. At best, I'll end up with about 18 pounds of excessive deliciousness. At worst, I'll have thrown about $50 and a few hours of otherwise bored time into the trash. But I've spent far more on hare brained schemes in the past. So, this one hasn't even made the wife shake her head in exasperation once. Of course she also knows that I'll be smoking a couple of racks of ribs and a 12 pound turkey during this carno-marathon. And I never screw those up.

Be well and be safe my friends.

Sorry, Guys, I'm a little late with the Friday Update, but there is nothing new to report anyway, except the following:

*After I finish Peter Swanson's new novel (which is quite compelling) I will start chipping away at Mary Trump's expose and a new novel *Mexican Gothic* by Silvia Moreno-Garcia which looks promising;

*I'm awaiting the delivery of The Texas Gentlemen's new vinyl *Floor It!* which I've been listening to digitally--great stuff;

*In addition to the daily film commentaries (today's is a neat film, BTW), I'm editing and co-writing a book with my best man and his twin brother on baseball (going really well);

*And it's Grill Night--steak and hot dogs. Nothing so great as Space's adventures, but I'm a modest guy with no aptitude for technologically advanced culinary experiences like our pal.

Be safe, be well, be blessed, my friends.

Post by greybelt on 7/31/2020, 8:32 am

We're still locked down, much of it self-imposed, so I said to the Mrs "You know, we could really use some time away together." She looked thoughtful like it was a brilliant idea for about a half second. Then I got the look all husbands know.

The Teac 3300 reel deck I bought from someone near us last year had its capstan motor seize. YIKES!! The unit is in great shape but I guess it's expected after 35-40 years. Collector Bob Burnham has been giving me advice via email. Bob and I go back to the time in terms of collecting when this deck was brand new on the market. He's a broadcast engineer, working on antennas, studios, and all things radio. The sewing machine oil to try to get it going again arrives today. I found a motor on eBay and Bob said it was a great price and I should buy it, so I did. It is amazing how many parts for reel decks are on eBay. There's a market for broken reel decks just for parts harvesting. If the sewing machine oil doesn't work, then at least I should have better luck finding a technician if I already have the part in hand.

The YTJD posts end sometime next week I think. Then, in a matter of weeks, I have at least 2 months of Suspense stuff to post. I thought I'd have the Suspense book update done by now, but there's so much new stuff I'm learning and cataloging it will be delayed for good reason.

Working on my Casey book -- did more editing yesterday.

At least there's baseball -- enjoy it while it lasts!
Some of the Mets look like they're in mid-season (awful) form with only 7 games played so far!

I'm finally at the end of my second and accidentally self imposed lockdown, aka vacation. Back to work on Monday. We're supposed to get brushed by a minor hurricane over the weekend. But local news is doing everything they can to ramp up the paranoia. After going through direct hits by a few fours and a five, it's kinda hard to get excited about being brushed by a one. Most of my preps consist of making sure all our tech toys are charged, just in case we lose power for a day.

I kinda hope my gas grill gets blown away. I hate that thing and wanna go back to charcoal.

Have fun kids. Be well and be safe.

GB over here in Ireland there are tons of reel to reel decks available as they have become popular with the HiFi groups. I see Akai, Sony, Teac, Pioneer etc. Right now there is a mint Teac A3300/12 for 270 Euro's on sale. I bought an Akai GX-630D 4-track 3 motor job for 200E that is mint came in box with cables reels and owners manual. I only bought it cos I thought it was cool. Then my friend got me some albums. I had no idea people released albums on reel to reel the sound is studio quality. Yes its a bit fiddly but worth it. Plus it just looks so HiFi.

In the same vein as your joke its a long weekend here and I am so happy to have some time at home lol!

Space one thing about lockdown is I have become very analog. I sometimes look at my phone only once a day and now at night I just plug it into the charger. That way I can read more books and listen to more vinyl or cassettes or reels. My buddy turned me back onto cassettes just by his enthusiasm for them. Plus they dirt cheap. I have bought whole boxes for fiver. And sound is good. I find if I look at phone or tablet I am seeing news feeds and the nonsense is beyond my ability to not head to the roof with a sniper rifle. Like doctor who thinks alien DNA is in play or demons. And this person is pushed by President. The apocalypse ain't coming its already happened. So I stay away from that.

And I don't want any laughing when I admit I have really gotten into Charlies Angels now, I missed this stuff first time around. The shows a hoot and Farrah Fawcett I mean what can I say..... Embarassed

Stay safe folks and remember to bake tons of stuff as during Covid there are no calories only tasty treats....

Life is pretty slow around here, worse than Uncle Joe's Petticoat Junction. But She Who Must Be Obeyed comes up with more than necessary to keep things hopping. This week has been the Great Toilet Seat Hunt (we've gone through three already and there's still not one that is satisfactory for her MS). It's uncanny.

My best man and his brother have written a quasi-novel, and have asked me to edit and add to it so it will be a three-man effort. It's about baseball and I've already added around 12 pages of extraneous wackiness to its already zany premise. Heck, it keeps me busy.

Stay safe and well fed, my friends. Vacation or not, we're hunkered down to promote good health.

Checking in folks. Another day another dollar.

Staying healthy and for the most part sane. Routine is basically set. Its my living with the virus blues routine. Work, workout, walk, eat, listen to music, read books watch the odd show. Last weekend I watched S2 of the Umbrella Academy that was a lot of fun. Really enjoyed that.

I am now a member of three different vinyl clubs that send you vinyl. And my fave book store delivers so I never have to leave the house again until 2022 to be sure we are okay. So someone let me know when 2022 rolls around.

Stay safe everyone .....

Well, between *The Whistler*-a-thon I've got going in the Balcony, starting *Mexican Gothic* by Silvia Mereno-Garcia, and peppering up my collaboration with my buddies on the baseball book, life has been hopping.

Beautiful weather in the seventies with low humidity is helping. No health concerns on the horizon, and a small handful of new old movies coming, and I'm good to go. Nothing spectacular, but who's complaining.

Be safe, be healthy and be blessed, dear friends.

It's the weekend, I'm working... blech!

The wife's a happy camper. I surprised her with a new recliner. I went whole hog and spent way too much. But it made her happy and that's what counts. No, I didn't get it to score points before my next "toy". That thought never crossed my mind. HONESTLY! I'm still in hot water, after that high powered paper punch I bought a couple of weeks ago. Suddenly the song "I'm Gettin' Nuttin' For Christmas" is stuck in my head.

Now I've gotta look up the root of the expression "Whole Hog".

Be well and Be Happy my friends.

Nice thing is you are now 100% solid buying a new two wheeled recliner for yourself. I prefer the Indian or Norton recliners myself and the odd Triumph who make a lovely recliner.

The classics are fun. All depends on where you live how much traffic and if you take your time. The classic Indians are brilliant they will drip oil a bit which is normal. Usually through breather or chain oiler. The brakes in no way shape or form are good enough for modern traffic of some fool cutting you off. You will know you are riding one in your posterior LOL but nothing beats the look or feel. My old bikes are not ridden long distance anymore. I went on a Classic ride here we went 300 miles I was on 67 Triumph Bonneville and at end of weekend I felt every mile in my bones and I was wearing a kidney belt and pads. If I had taken the 2016 Indian Chief I would have cruised in total Luxury. But I went classic and paid. So now the classics are for run down to beach for ice-cream. Or a roar up the road and back to annoy the neighbours.

The new scouts are really nice the retro bobber they do with the wide whitewalls its really nice. I want one of those. Reliable and great braking, anti-dive front end all the toys and accessories to make them the best.

My three fave bikes are Norton, Indian and Triumphs. During the move I sold off most of my cars and some of the bikes. I still have enough toys to be kept busy. I gravitate more to the bikes now as I can throw them up on the bike lift and leave them there for months LOL while I slow wrench when I have time. Blocking up the garage with cars in pieces is not allowed anymore. LOL. I have one 54 Hudson that is in 3000 pieces but will be going back together I swear. I am lucky my daughter loves wrenching on cars and already has her own 51 Hornet but wants the 54 as well so that probably will get done. If you own classics and are in a rush you are doing it wrong...

I hate the headlight housing they've been putting on their "standard" models. To me, it ruins the whole look of the bike. And I think it's hilarious that Harley started losing sales and started copying Indian.
