This better-sounding episode was missing its opening. It needed a patch from a different copy of the same episode. That was worth doing, hence the "composite" in file name.

Re: Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar
Two today... and two special ones tomorrow before we leave for the RS cruise.
Many of these posts these past weeks have been because of the generosity of Toebig, who shared some of his collection from the 1970s and let us use some of today's modern tools to clean them up. YTJD episodes of that era are mainly home recordings that have preserved them to this day. Thanks to those anonymous collectors of decades ago we can enjoy these programs of this series.

Yours truly,

Re: Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar
Thank you for all these special upgrades and everything you post.
I imagine the 'Radio Spirits Cruise' is an expedition through the rivers in the jungle to the lost caves of transcription discs where radio explorers discover their bounty and bring it back to share with the rest of us. I hope you have a great voyage!
(And please tell Radio Spirits to keep pumping out the Jim French shows in good quality, I can't get enough of them)

Re: Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar
This is a special treat, courtesy of collector/researcher/entertainer Keith Scott. He received these as traded home recordings in the late 1970s. There was nothing special about them as they were going to be making the rounds among collectors of the time just like everything else would. Somehow they fell out of circulation because the collectors who had them passed away, stopped trading, lost interest, or perhaps did not think the recordings had good value to others because of their sub-par sound. Keith was very surprised when he realized they were not in my set.
I think many of the traders of that era would be shocked to learn how popular YTJD is today, especially among newer collectors. These two newly "re-found" recordings are quite exciting to have. We can't get enough of the series or Bob Bailey!
I've cleaned them up to remove the hum common in home recordings, emphasize clarity, and deal with the tape hiss. They are still LQ, for sure, but these are much more enjoyable today than they were when traded in the 1970s.

A word about this one and the word "froward." We know how Jack Johnstone used to enjoy puns and interesting titles. For years, collectors thought this was a typo and would "correct" it to "forward." This was especially the case when this was considered a missing episode. One thing that stopped that was the script image included the first OTRR set of YTJD where the title is plain to see.
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, "froward" means "habitually disposed to disobedience and opposition." Listen for Johnny's hilarious comments about fishing and marriage at about 2:26.
"Froward" is awkward to pronounce, and Bailey botches it the first time he says it as the title of the episode when he says what sounds like “forward” instead. Whoops! At the approximate 11 and 16 minute marks, the plot of the story hinges on the use of this very word. So it's more than just a play on words in the title, it plays a role in the solution of Johnny's case!

That's it for now. Off to the high seas, and upon our safe return I'll start posting Suspense again.
[Message to Rearle1: I wish that was the actual itinerary! And I will pass that comment about Jim French's programs along...]

This is indeed a treat! 2 Missing episodes. A big thanks to Keith Scott.
I hope you enjoy the cruise and don't gain too much weight with the food. Cruise food is great!
