Inner Sanctum
Has anyone seen this item on YouTube? It's a missing episode!
Next Time I Live 1948-08-30 AFRS#42
It's about time we started posting this series -- I have a very good set -- and much of it was used in the OTRR set at archive.org (uploaded November 2017). We could use that as a base and I can send someone upgrades to post. Contact me by private message.

A guy named Pete from one of the Facebook groups got a stash of several hundred discs and came across this missing episode - and it's a very good one at that!

Re: Inner Sanctum
What? You listen to OTR recordings? Some people just collect them!
Yes, Pete has been very generous with the things he has found, one of which was that missing Whistler "Great Zantini".

Re: Inner Sanctum
There are two Inner Sanctum recordings of "The Judas Clock" -- only the 1945 one is in Martin Grams' book
InnerSanctum_1945-04-17_The_Judas_Clock_wBerryKroeger (Judas coins) UPGRADE.mp3
No co-star mentioned at the beginning of the episode.
The writer is Christopher Mayo -- this name also appears in some newspapers listings.
There is a second program, with some important differences
InnerSanctum_19xx-xx-xx_The_Judas_Clock_wBerryKroeger (Cleopatra's clock) (AFRS).mp3
It mentions it as Cleopatra's clock.
Lawson Zerbe is mentioned as the co-star.
The writer is Frederick Maytho (that is the spelling in RadioGoldindex)
The same name is attributed for Molle "Doctor and the Lunatic"
I looked in the newspapers.com archive to see if "Doctor and the Lunatic" publicity mentioned a writer, in hopes of getting the correct spelling of the name, and i did not find any show listing with a writer credit. I checked all of the RadioGoldindex Maytho credits in newspapers.com and found nothing that mentions him.
It makes me wonder if Mayo and Maytho are the same person... or if both names are pseudonyms used by one writer...
... there are no IMDb references either...
but that's beside the point...
This second "Judas Clock" recording is not documented anywhere, and i have often found it dated 1945-04-17, which is incorrect. The 1945 recording matches up with everything it's supposed to in terms of cast, writer, etc.
The other problem is that it is an AFRS recording that has potential clues in ads and announcements removed.
Martin G has been stumped about this recording since his Inner Sanctum book came out years ago, and there has been no new information since. But perhaps other research materials have become available.
Maytho's credits are on two different RGI pages:

Re: Inner Sanctum
Emruf7 -- what a big clue you offered...
A search of the Molle episode "The Rival Dummy" by "Fred Maypo" led to this...
Could "Frederick Maypo/Maytho" be Ben Hecht? No!
A little more searching led to this...
Methot was an active writer and participated in some musical and operatic programs, too. But get this creepy item that was sent by the CBS publicity department and picked up by many papers...
It's not "Maypo" or "Maytho" it's Methot, and "Christopher Mayo" for the dated broadcast was probably his pseudonym for some unknown reason... except, according to a Louella Parsons column, Fred was the sister of the third Mrs. Humphrey Bogart, actress Mayo Methot! (But where does "Christopher" come from?)
No newspaper or other searches for Methot that included "Judas Clock" yielded anything. There are no mentions of Methot in Martin G's Inner Sanctum book!
Other info:
Methot was a comic book writer in the early 1940s, too!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
AND
His script Comic Strip Murder was performed twice on Molle and then used on the Suspense TV series!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
The artist in the Suspense episode, off camera, is Dick Ayers, whom I remember as being involved in 1960s Marvel Comics' Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos... and who was a 1970s OTR collector!
Now we know who wrote it... but when was this currently "date-orphaned" Judas Clock originally broadcast?
The mystery continues...
We are now ignorant of a key fact but at a much higher level of sophistication!
Thanks, Emruf7!

Re: Inner Sanctum
Glad to help.
On Google Books, there's something called "List of Enrolled Voters ...: Borough of Manhattan, New York (N.Y.). Board of Elections, 1963" which includes this entry:
Methot, Frederic A. Â Â 55 Christopher st 59957--D

emruf7:
WOW!
Now we have to figure out if he was there in 1945 when Judas Clock was first broadcast.
This is in a part of Manhattan that is covered by rent control and people can hold onto their apartments for very long times, sometimes decades, so it is plausible.
Just found him in the 1949 Congressional Record for a contribution of literary services to a committee.
Frederic Methot, 1 University Pl., N. Y. C., literary services
University Place is in that same Washington Square neighborhood.

Re: Inner Sanctum
For the second Judas Clock, Dwight Weist is the announcer, it is most probable that it was on CBS and aired between late 1946 to early 1950.
Getting conflicting data as to the exact family relationship with Mayo Methot. Her obituary and those of her parents do not mention a son Frederic.
But multiple newspaper items insist on it.
Still a mystery!

Re: Inner Sanctum
Saturday night (2/3/2024), Carl Amari will be playing a missing Inner Sanctum episode, The Front Page Murder 1948-11-08. It is an AFRS recording. One of the folks in "The Knights of the Turning Table" group who worked on the Joe Hehn Memorial Collection found it on eBay and a bunch of us kicked in something like 10 bucks each and got it. He insisted it be shared widely among OTR fans. Look for Chicago station WIND in your streaming services like TuneIn Saturday night. It looks like it will be the second hour, which I believe is 9pm ET. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Sorry greybelt, I 'downvoted' one of your posts by accident.
I must have clicked something and it said "your vote has been cast" which confused me for a moment because I never saw a poll at the top of the thread, but now I see the little +/- beside each post - I literally never noticed that before.

I guess if you like a post you can click the plus, or if you dislike it you can click the minus. A bit superfluous though when there's also a like/dislike button.
I've no idea how new the +/- is, or if it's been there a long time and my brain has tuned it out.

A missing Inner Sanctum! The date is 1948-11-08 and is "Front Page Murder." It is available at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] in FLAC and mp3 or for streaming. The AFRS recording was transferred from disc recently and stars Myron McCormick. Beware of the strange killer "The Claw Man!"
This is the episode that Carl Amari featured on his broadcast this past weekend.
