Re: Quiet, Please!
Yes definitely re-performances rather than repeats/reruns. Sometimes a show was even performed twice a few hours apart for the east & west coast (To make it clear, I'm talking about shows in general, not Quiet Please).
Not sure I follow what you're saying about Witch's tale. I'm referring to things like this - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - there's many duplicate files. For some there's two copies, for some there's three, and it's the same file each time. It gives a false impression of how many episodes exist, it's misleading. It's a horrible trend I've only seen happen within the last couple of years.
Sorry, this isn't the first thread where I've digressed by mentioning Witch's Tale. I'll post another bunch of Quiet Please when I've encoded some more.
EDIT: Oh think I follow now. Yes I just realised that set on archive.org also includes the Austalian shows but they've been given the US airdates. Ugh! It's worse than I thought. It's difficult enough trying to sort out that show, stuff like that only adds to the confusion.

Re: Quiet, Please!
Not sure I follow what you're saying about Witch's tale.
Let me take a different tact then.
The Log for the Witch's Tale was derived from Coles' scripts by David Seigel. This was only for the Live WOR/Mutual broadcasts for 1931 to 1938. Of ALL of these broadcasts only 2 are known to exist. The remaining recordings available are Syndications or Australian (They were produced separately in a separate studio - not live - not broadcast over WOR).
For what I refer to as the US Syndication, these were recorded at Byers Laboratories (Not WOR studios) at or around 1934/35. The idea was to take a script, like the Werewolf and split it into 2 15 minute parts, each with a separate introduction. Then you could fill a full half hour or 15 minutes of programming - making the series more flexible and more importantly more SALEABLE, because radio was still all about the money. These recordings had no sponsor (Advertising)
I don't have a lot of information about Kruschens Salts. They were recorded in a full 1/2 hour format with Kruschens salts commercials (as the sponsor). I don't know where or when they might have been played.
Finally, the Australian broadcasts - well they're Australian aren't they (at least the cast is).
Given that - people are trying to put a round peg in a square hole.
What to do:
Log 1 - US Broadcasts
Live over WOR
In the Devils Name
? skin
<add a new live recording here iff it ever is found>
Syndicated Byers Labs (These should be split into their 2 15 minute parts)
Promo pt 1
Promo pt 2
Frankenstein pt 1
Frankenstein pt 2
...
Syndicated Kruschens Salts
? Rockabye Baby
...
Log 2 Australian
Audition
Series I
...
Series II
...
This way there is no confusion because you aren't trying to match apples and (red) oranges.

JazzMan wrote:I think Jerry's log is a pretty good gauge of what's available, though I did post the 1st half of Be a good dog darling (his log indicates he doesn't have) and he's listing 88 episodes. Given that, I'm not even sure I have those 88.
Checking what I have against his list, I have everything he has apart from #102 which I just found online (and surprisingly in 96kbps not the usual awful 32kbps), plus I have the incomplete "Be a good dog darling".
While I was at it I downloaded #43 & #106 "Quiet Please" and they're both identical right down to the clicks and crackles and the same bump at the beginning where the gramophone lid is closed! So #43 goes back to not being currently available.
I downloaded both versions of "In the house where I was born" and the 2nd version is different, so that's good.

The second "In the house where I was born" is indeed different though!
Excellent!

Makes sense. If you start the filenames with the year, put the exact date if known, the Syndicated ones can be 1934, we have the dates for most of the Australian ones. Put (AUS) in the filename of the Australian ones. You can even put the US and Australian ones in the same folder without confusion because none of the time periods overlap. Job done.

Re: Quiet, Please!
Thanks to both JazzMan and Egg_Crisis, this is a great series and you both deserve our thanks for putting in the time and work it takes to post these correctly.
On one of your earlier comments about people renaming episodes. I once traded a person (years ago) for 900 plus episodes of Challenge of the Yukon. When I got the episodes and started listening to them, I found that 600 plus episodes were the exact same episode copies 600 plus times and given different dates and titles. We ended up banning the bad guy. He could still be around using a different I.D.

Re: Quiet, Please!
Here's another batch. Totally unprocessed, from reels originally traded (I'd guess) sometime in the 80's? I think it's likely that all the copies found on the net originate from these trader copies. I wonder if there's any new disc transfers made during this internet era?
I find these so much more pleasant to listen to, I can't bear the overprocessed low bitrate sound present in so many copies you'll find on the net, at it's worst it's like someone shaking a bag of broken glass, or like your loudspeaker is a rusty biscuit tin, it's like nails on a blackboard to me.

Re: Quiet, Please!
Wow, I'm really loving these posts - and thank you all for not processing them. Some of the shows are indeed in very bad shape, but given that, the tendency to overprocess is even more likely. I have even WAV versions of some which were cleaned up by pro's, yet they still bother me as the treble gets muddied, and on one at least, some scratches still remained when the voices were speaking, but then vanished when there was silence (so scratches dipping up and down). I'm very sensitive to this stuff and many (if not most) people might not notice - but I really like getting raw transfers - even when they're in bad shape. And denoising artifacts get amplified when converted to mp3, especially low-bitrate ones.... anyway, thanks again for the posts....when I'm back home next week, I'll compare with my versions and see if I have any upgrades to offer....

Two more recreations of "Be a Good Dog, Darling":
1. A version by the The Middlebury Radio Theater of Thrills and Suspense, a college station's radio drama club, which opens with Big Mama Thornton's 1953 song "Hound Dog" before getting to the story:

Thank you very much for the links to Quiet Please Egg Crisis, but on this last set I get zero sized files when I attempt to download. - Tom

I just tried one and it worked ok for me.
And here's the next batch of raw transfers. Just over a minute into episode 89 a few lines of dialogue had been recorded over with part of a commercial (I checked an online copy and it was the same). I added the missing part using another undamaged (but less good quality) copy.
