First, BIG thanks to Lasombra for that fill. Eureka!

Second, MAJOR apology to CDM and all for my unannounced absence yesterday. I had to get up at 2:30 AM to travel to the Jersey Shore (I'm at the opposite end of the state) for Audubon's annual Christmas Bird Count and just spaced it. This just was not the first thing on my mind; I was fully concentrated on keeping my face from dropping into the oatmeal. Got home at 6 after an exhausting day of standing in 25-30 mph frigid ocean winds, wolfed some horrible fast food with a glass of cheap wine and promptly fell asleep for eleven hours. So, my bad... but all in a good cause, I promise.

The next entry brings us the "team" of Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy abetted by Mel Torme and that ULTIMATE pin-up of pin-ups, Rita Hayworth:

Well, what can I say when you were involved in the annual Christmas Bird Count! Sounds like you had an all round bumper day but at least I hope you came out of it without sticky fingers.

AND you are right about Rita - pure class.

Bing is back in our next offering, leading the way with a 'slippy tape' version of After You've Gone. Cast isn't bad either with Claudette and Frank amongst the usual bunch.

Could do with an upgrade on this one.

Today we've got another dose of the Tin Man... plus a cast of essentially a dozen bit players, Lucille Ball being perhaps the closest thing to a headliner.

A program of A-listers is next, with Bob Hope spreading a bit of anarchy in the company of cohort Bette Davis. As tended to happen with AFRS projects once they hit the mature phase of their life cycle, there's a lot of recycling going on... this recording is a repeat of #89. I don't have a label photo to back it up, but my notes indicate this is direct from disc:

In like manner, #110 is a repeat of #86. Mackenzie's notes state that there is no explanation for the omission of 109 and 110 from the AFRS listings. My guess is that they had run out of material and just punted for a couple of weeks! Cool
As my learned friend states, this was fairly common practice in AFRS series at the time. In any event Goldin claims to have #110 so we'll go with that.

Well, here's Hope again... but the tendency towards a bit less star power continues as our guests are Fred MacMurray and Olga San Juan:

Thanks CDM and lasombra. I never had any interest in this show because of the poor quality. These are all upgrades for me and very much appreciated, thank you.

For today's doubleheader opener, we have Jack Carson working his masculine charms, or so he thinks, on Bonita Granville and Connie Haines:

And for the second part of the twin bill, we have Andy Devine struggling to lead the charge. I have no idea what the opening number is called, although I probably should since it's announced as a classic! If you know it, please let me know.

At this point, Mackenzie states that there are no AFRS notes for shows beyond this one, so we'll be winging it.

Well, not ENTIRELY going by the baggy seat of our Dad jeans. Wink The possible reason that Mr. Mackenzie does not have records of the later shows may have something to do with the fact that they are mostly (or perhaps entirely?) complete or partial (i.e., "assembled") shows. David Goldin has logged some of these and we know that some of what we will be posting is straight from disc, so there is some useful documentation even if not at the Mackenzie gold standard. Moving forward:

GI Journal (116) 1945-10-26 Robert Benchley - In The Hall of The Mountain King

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Mean Mr. Goldin says this one is not only likely assembled, but "poorly assembled". Ouch.
