Your Playhouse of Favorites Empty Your Playhouse of Favorites

Post by Harlow Wilcox 1/16/2020, 9:11 pm

This is to help fill the request of forum member mjnunes84. Of course, anyone else feel free to download as well and If you have any fills or upgrades please post them for mjnunes84. Myself, I have never listened to this series but I always confuse it with Author's Playhouse. I will start listening to it now though. According to the RGoldindex these shows were recorded in 1948 and the transcription discs say "RCA Syndication" on them. I have 8 episodes that will provide some fills and upgrades. Should be 4 fills and 4 upgrades if i counted right. The link is provided with each one.

Your Playhouse of Favorites (#02) A Tale of Two Cities

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Your Playhouse of Favorites (#09) "Treasure Island" starring William Redfield
(This is an Upgrade)

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Your Playhouse of Favorites (#10) Rip Van Winkle
(Possible Upgrade - I'll let you decide!)

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I had a chance to look at your online log of Playhouse of Favorites. It's a handsome presentation.
Do you mind if I do a copy and paste and save it to my computer as a Word document?

Thank you, Wildcat! It looks like you have a few more fills and upgrades! I greatly appreciate it!

I'd note that the episode "The Dusty Drawer" is actually an AFRS rebroadcast of the Philco Radio Playhouse, 10-28-53 with a different series title.

I've recently found an episode of Playhouse of Favorites that was not logged into my collection of this series. I came here to see if it was mentioned. The links have disappeared so I can't tell if you all have it or not. It's #41 The Corsican Brothers. Then I noticed mjunes84's post about The Dusty Drawer and I hadn't moved the show out of Playhouse to Philco Radio Playhouse. Do other episodes survive?

I do not have #41 The Corsican Brothers. I would love to hear that one!

I put together all the episodes I had and the ones shared by generous Cobaltians at the link below:

I'm still puzzled by the Dusty Drawer. The opening still has Playhouse of Favorites. Is that a completely different series that AFRS used to rebroadcast shows from various series or did some collector just add the opening and closing?

Thank you, lasombra. I look forward to listening to this!

Yes, the AFRS had a separate "Playhouse of Favorites" series, which rebroadcast episodes of various series. I don't know much beyond that. It was similar to the AFRS "From the Bookshelf of the World," which did something similar. I believe that either in the late 40s or early 50s, some episodes of the syndicated Playhouse of Favorites series were used by the AFRS for "From the Bookshelf of the World."

Hopefully my research will turn up some additional information sometime. But, I have continued some of my research on the syndicated Playhouse of Favorites series, and apparently there was a separate Australian series in the late 40s, with 78 episodes (repeating many of the stories of the American series). I just finished putting together a complete log of the Australian series, although I have not any of the episodes.

Looking at this page of disc labels from Jerry Haendiges, it looks to me that it is a generic AFRS show name for rebroadcasts of either other series or Philco Radio Playhouse
