Thanks toebig and kdmarket. I've had the shows listed on those sites. I'm looking for copies at greater than 32 kbps and in really nice sound. Some of yours, toebig, are better than those I have. Somewhere I have two reels that I dubbed back in the 1980s and I recall they were really nice and fun to listen to. Thought maybe someone else here might have them.

Looking for a copy of:

The Ted Mack show June 28, 1951

Dear Mr. Cornell,

I was given your contact details by Mr. Albert Fisher. I am trying to track down an archived copy of my grandfather, who is turning 90 this month, performing on the Ted Mack show. Mr Fisher let me know that no copy of the television program exists, but that the radio show may.

The details are below. I would truly appreciate any information you can provide. I am more than happy to pay any fees associated with this effort.

"The Quantico Four" were also called: "The Gismo Four." They were a Marine Corps barbershop quartet. Their contact at Quantico, Virginia was Capt. Curtis at phone: RE-2-8000, ext. 360. They performed on the TV show on June 26, 1951 and also on the radio version on June 28, 1951.

Thank you in advance for your efforts!

Is this show out there?

Monster Benefit for the American Red Cross. February 11, 1937. 4 network pool feed, independent stations. Sponsored by: Wrigley's Spearmint Gum (commercials suspended). The program originates from Radio City Music Hall. It's a benefit for the relief of victims of the floods in the Ohio and Mississippi valleys. The program is very disorganized with long pauses between several of the performers. Graham McNamee sounds as if he had been grabbed just at the last minute and pushed on stage. He introduces Dudley Diggs (who's nowhere in sight), then Olga Baclanova, but he has no idea of what she's going to sing. Hardly anyone even mentions the flood or the Red Cross. Deems Taylor, Walter Damrosch, Igor Stravinsky (conducts excerpts from his composition, "The Firebird"), Lucrezia Bori, George Jessel (second m. c., don't miss his story about a Roumanian dinner), Ethel Merman (in great voice, singing a medley of her hits), The Rockettes (appearing on the air for the first time, which is understandable, as their performance is purely visual. They are billed as, "Roxy and the Rockettes"), Tamara (singing the song she made famous from "Roberta," "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes"), Erno Rappe's Orchestra, Leo Reisman (conductor), Gertrude Lawrence (singing "Limehouse Blues"), Reginald Gardiner (imitates wallpaper, a locomotive and the Hindenberg), Helen Hayes, Ruth Gordon, Evelyn Laye, Milton Berle (trades wisecracks with Hope, and is topped by him), Bob Hope (sings, "Invitation to a Dance," and chokes up while doing it), Fred Waring and The Pennsylvanians (Glee-Club), Kitty Carlisle (sings a delightful, "Gianina Mia"), Borrah Minevitch (and his harmonica group do a visual act that keeps the audience in stitches, they then play a mind-boggling suite from, "Scherezade"), James Barton (m.c., and obviously unprepared), The Tyrolian Slap Dancers (from "The White Horse Inn"), Bert Lahr (sings "Woodman, Spare That Tree"), Luise Rainer (plays the "Telephone Scene" from "The Great Ziegfeld"), Jack Pearl, Cliff Hall, Graham McNamee (introduced as, "The greatest announcer since the inception of radio"), Roland Young, Ernest Truex (in a skit called, "The Mother Tongue"), Olga Baclanova (soprano), Burgess Meredith (sings!), Estelle Taylor, Henry Hull, Imogene Coca (introduced as going to do a striptease, but only music is heard), Fiorello La Guardia (first speaker heard), Noel Coward (m.c.). 2:28:59.

Post by bicho 8/30/2019, 8:51 am

i´m looking for this historical broadcast:

International Broadcast From The Airship Hindenburg. May 7, 1936. NBC net. Sustaining. An attempted two way conversation with the steamer "Bremen" and the airship Hindenburg. Max Jordan tries to establish contact while aboard the Zeppelin, heading for America on her maiden westbound flight. He describes the airship's accomodations (including the grand piano) and the cuisine. These are two separate broadcasts made on the same day. Commander Hugo Eckener of the Hindenburg is heard (in German only). The recording includes organ fill. Max Jordan, Hugo Eckener, Van Russell (NBC announcer in New York). 30:45.

thanks in advance.

I'm new to this site, so I don't yet the proper decorum. Anyway, when I started, I didn't know about this sub-division. So, my question is, having already made a request for certain programs elsewhere on this website, would it be reasonable to make the same request here? Do most viewers routinely review all subdivisions? I haven't been doing that.

Hi Niku, I normally check all threads. Not all in one day. I tend to rely on the option at the bottom of each thread to watch the topic. That way I am notified by e-mail each time there is a new post in the threads that I am watching. Hope this helps.

How about this one? "Lum 'n' Abner Friday Night Sociable, November  17, 1933? Well, I've struck out on the very popular shows, so I thought I'd try this one. Finding this show would be a miracle.

Thanks for that. I don't think the episode I'm looking for is here, but I'll keep looking. In the meantime, I've managed to download several hundred of them. It's just that I'm looking for "Lum 'n' Abner Friday Night Sociable." while the overwhelming number of shows here are just plain old, "Lum 'n" Abner." As a matter of fact, it looks to me as if there are only four shows in the sub-category that I'm looking for. Nevertheless, it has been an educational experience. I'm learning more and more about OTR. Thanks, again.

I have these 2 which were posted on a FB group by a guy who had a huge collection of Australian shows he was sharing.  For some reason, possibly moderators, he was pressured into not posting anymore and he was upset about it (so was I!).  He would have posted loads more of this series if they hadn't done that.    I messaged him to see if he might be interested in trading, but never received a reply.

Be sure to go over to the Whistler thread [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and see the information posted about this past weekend's presentation Karl Schadow and I made at the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention. The link to the YouTube version is there along with links to slides and other resources.
