Lux Upgrades
Before we post some shows... a review from Billboard that I found rather amusing will start us off on the right foot It's about "This Above All" from Sept 14, 1942:
I especially like the line "Stanwyck, who was about as much an aristocratic Englishwoman as is a hunk of corned beef and cabbage, managed to offer nothing except a sort of weak vocal imitation of Katharine Hepburn." There's a cynical line about Tyrone Power "perpetrated readings that sounded as tho they had sprung fresh from the lips of the Punxsutawney Dramatic Society" followed by the devastating "And the pair of them acted like -- well, a pair of film actors." Methinks the reviewer was not pleased.

It's not easy to build up quality acting chops when your primary thespian partner is a groundhog.

Re: Lux Upgrades
Thanks Greybelt.
I just listened to Jack Benny 1944-03-19, Dennis Dreams He Has a Radio Program, with guest star Barbera Stanwyck. Barbera plays a small part but seems at her best. Worth a listen. Is this an intro to Dennis really having his own show?

Re: Lux Upgrades
Could be, but he went into the service that fall so he didn't get a shot at his own show until two years later.

Re: Lux Upgrades
Thanks for that, Nightkey
The name I have given the file is
Lux Radio Theatre 54-03-15 (872) Jeopardy AFRS UPGRADE
The current OTRR set copy is a low encode in bad sound that has no opening or closing, which is common for many older files that were AFRS. Early collectors felt that AFRS recordings were lesser than network shows, and in some cases would try to "restore" them by patching in opens and closings and commercials from other shows (the result was usually bad and obvious). Over the years OTR enthusiasts have come to realize how important AFRS recordings are to preserving the era. This is a really nice recording, especially compared to what we had.
