Memoirs of the Movies. November 26, 1961. Program #4. Group W (Westinghouse Broadcasting) syndication. "The Day the Screen Screamed". A program about the coming of, "The Talkies." This series was produced between 1958 and 1960 by Robert Franklin and Joan Franklin. The series was apparently broadcast on the Mutual net in 1959, before being syndicated by "Group W." The series was also heard on WNYC, New York City (twice). Columbia University's Oral History Research Office became involved (having inherited the scripts and raw interviews). The series was, at some point, known as, "In Retropect." At some point, the introduction by Myrna Loy was added to each program (the same 1:40 for each program), the episode sequencing was altered and the titles of the individual programs were changed. Out of a planned 24 episodes, 18 programs in the series were announced on the air and in press releases. Only 16 recordings are known to have been found. Myrna Loy (host), Joseph Schildkraut (narrator), Janet Gaynor, Harold Lloyd, Richard Barthelmess, Elliott Nugent, Lila Lee, Samson Raphaelson (author of "The Jazz Singer"), Ralph Bellamy, Reginald Denny. 28:37.
