John advises that there are references in the story to 1959-08-30 Really Gone Matter and 1959-09-13 Leumas Matter
Both programs are included at the WeTransfer link!

The Really Gone Matter has never been upgraded since the first OTRR certified set 16 years ago. It is a very low encode. Still hoping it comes up in some of these reels we've been transferring.

For decades, YTJD logs have listed a performance of 1959-09-27 The Gruesome Spectacle Matter. There was no such broadcast; a special with Maurice Chevalier was broadcast and pre-empted YTJD. A PDF of the newspaper clippings showing this is included in the WeTransfer link, too!

John notes that the second episode appears to have patched credits from the first. The clue is that Sam Edwards has a role in the second episode and is not mentioned.

Jack Johnstone muffed a continuity item (it's amazing that we can find one -- he was spectacular at keeping it all straight). Johnny says that his helicopter ride in the second episode was his first. Mr Abbott tracks these things and notes that the first was actually part 3 of the Star of Capetown Matter when Johnny was in a military helicopter.

Speaking of Jack Johnstone, his stature was already high in my book, and it went up numerous notches more as I was going through Joe Hehn's correspondence. Hehn was trying to write a book about the golden age, and he was getting turned down, spurned, and even insulted as he attempted to contact actors, directors, writers, and others. For the Bailey through Kramer periods, whenever he states an amount, just add a zero, or multiply by 10, to any dollar amount and you're close enough. Some of the Bailey numbers seem so laughable, with someone insuring something for $10,000 until you realize it's $100,000 today.

I hate when this happens... the first upgrade is an upgrade after some defects at the beginning of the file. Not sure if I want to create a composite file or not with the new recording and the old one.

The second upgrade is a pair of versions, AFRS and network.

This is one of those half-a-loaf is better than none situations. We have a really nice upgraded drama, but it's not a fully-intact broadcast. And the have a circulating version with an incomplete open but everything else is there. Perhaps one day, a composite recording can be created to restore the complete network broadcast despite the sound differences. Volunteers? Of course, it would always be labeled as "composite" at least here in Cobalt and other responsible venues...

Today's is one of those titles that needs a script cover to verify. The recording still has a clipped open, but now smoothed out and less garbled. Someone didn't twist the knob to "record" off the air in time.
