This is an upgrade of one of the Roma 2-day/wk shows that we had in 32kps -- very nice sound

Re: Suspense Upgrades
Today's post seems to help solve a mystery...
The episode "Fugue in C Minor" that is announced as a Thursday East Coast program has been in circulation for some time and has been released on multiple CD sets. It has always been released as a complete network broadcast. It has some minor "flubs" which has caused some OTR collectors to label the recording as a rehearsal. As various copies have been encountered in these recent years, it is more and more likely that it is not a rehearsal but the actual Thursday broadcast.
A "flub-free" performance recording was also circulating and was labeled "as broadcast." This error-free performance recording had a clipped close and was not complete. As the research in the 2x/week period has been done over this last year or so, it became obvious that the "flub-free" performance was the West Coast performance. It lacked, however, the the "join us next Monday" or similar close to make that status certain.
The recording posted today is the complete Monday broadcast!
These are the differences in the Thursday (East) and Monday (West) recordings. The detailed information is supplied by our beloved Nightkey who has stood by Cobaltia through thick and thin, server after server. Times are approximate...
Thursday 7:56 They won't...they don't let me play when they're at home.
Monday 7:53: They don't want me to play when they're home
Thursday 12:06 Please. Please don't start them off Amanda. It's too upsetting. Come along children. Now we're going to have a little music.
Monday 11:59 Don't start them off again Amanda please. It's too upsetting. Now, come along children. We're going to have a little music now.
Thursday 17:26 Why doesn't Papa give us a key? If he'd only let us .... have it, we could look for her.
Monday 17:28 Oh, why doesn't papa give us a key? If he'd only give us a key, we could go look for her.
Thursday 17:45 That's where they.. that's where the big pipes are. And inside it's all dark. But where are the.. but there are.. there are tunnels... there's a little room... a little room ... that's where she's hiding
Monday 17:37 That's where the big pipes are. And inside it's all dark. They.. There are tunnels in there and little rooms that go all throughout the house and that's where mama is.
"Fugueā€¯ is the only episode where there are numerous dialogue differences in the two recordings. The EC/WC differences are often very hard to spot, but these differences are obvious. Is the EC/Thursday recording a rehearsal? We're so accustomed to a clean reading in Suspense, with rare mis-cues of effects and music, that it's hard to accept that a script with a tentative reading could be the final version. Perhaps the "Sorry, Wrong Number" incident of the mis-delivered closing lines in its first broadcast made Suspense broadcast performances so good. Remember, "Fugue" is only a year after the first "Sorry" with the error. Perhaps that production paranoia of having a repeated incident is what helped make Suspense productions so good from a technical aspect. But yes, it does seem, unless a different EC/Thursday recording is found, that the "flubs" went out over the airwaves that night.
Enjoy the now complete Monday recording...

Re: Suspense Upgrades
Error correction in my set, perhaps in yours...
If you have a 19 minute version of
1958-08-31 Whole Town's Sleeping
it might be marked network -- it's actually AFRS
I've deleted it from my collection.
There is a complete version from disc in nice sound that is accurately marked as AFRS. It has been posted before.
But here it is in case you missed it [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Interesting news... I've had some correspondence with John Alsedek of Blue Hours Productions who does the "new time radio" Suspense revival [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Their recreation of one of the missing Suspense episodes is coming this month! When it's available, I'll post the link.
Also, my PDF document about missing Suspense episodes has been updated and expanded.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Please don't aggressively distribute this yet as I have more updates in process, but I thought it might be of interest over this US Labor Day weekend. Sometime this Fall it will be done and I will ask everyone's help to spread it around the hobby at that time.
Thanks so very much, Cobaltia!
