Good Word 47-08-06 The fourth show in the series. First word is eulogy

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

A gnome is in the garden busily destroying some bushes when a house cat appears.
"What are you?" asks the cat.
"A gnome," comes the reply. "I steal food from humans, I kill their plants, I make annoying music at night to drive them crazy, and I love mischief. And what, may I ask, are you?"
The cat replies, "Um, I guess I'm a gnome."

The Joe Hehn Memorial Collection is still being built at archive.org. We're trying to get as much posted as we can before the anniversary date of his passing on October 17.

Much new stuff, and we're trying not to post anything unless it is equal or better than what is in circulation. FLACs and mp3 downloadable on the site. More to come!

The general collection can be accessed using

External DVD drives are indeed inexpensive. I believe I paid $30.00 for mine when I got a new desktop a few months ago. Windows is now attached to your machine so if you buy a new computer, it will come with it. Old Windows 7 machines actually still have a path to get free upgrades to Windows 10 even though they said it was only going to be for a year.

if you think the issue might be with your hard drive, you could download Hard Disk Sentinal's trial version from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and run it. I've used if for some years now after having hard drive issues on a previous machine. Once you set it up, which is relatively easy, you just forget about it until you get an alert if you are running hot or have a drive issue. The only issue I found was the constant temperature alerts for my SSD. I just changed the alert to 50 C for that drive from 40 C and it has not been an issue. SSDs normally run hot apparently.

Windows 7 was great, 8 was trying to be a tablet OS and was wretched, and 10 has been a great successor to 7 because it kept the best from 8, and has had four years of security updates and improvements. Windows 11 is releasing in October but is pretty much the same as 10. It will be better in the long run but the initial release may have bugs. No need to buy it as you will get it for free if you have 10 on your machine.

Agreed Gordon -- Windows 8 was awful. XP was good, Vista was disappointing and slow and annoying and made XP look great when I "downgraded" back, Windows 7 was often stunning, what a relief that was. Windows 10 has been surprisingly good -- was concerned about it being bloated, and I was pleased. So many brands and varieties of applications run well in it. As far as Windows 11 -- the old joke about Microsoft comes from the old Ford TV commercials, with a software industry twist: "quality is job 1.1" Smile

We have two Memorial Services to go to today. It comes with old age as all our friends are getting old also.

They are both Christians, so we know where they are.

Take care, stay safe and healthy,

Tom

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Two factory workers are talking. The woman says, "I can make the boss give me the day off."
The man replies, "And how would you do that?"
The woman says, "Just wait and see." She then hangs upside down from the ceiling.
The boss comes in and says, "What are you doing?"
The woman replies, "I'm a light bulb."
The boss then says, "You've been working so much that you've gone crazy. I think you need to take the day off."
The man starts to follow her and the boss says, "Where are you going?"
The man says, "I'm going home, too. I can't work in the dark."

It's Sunday, have a blessed day.

On a cold winter day a wife texts her husband, "Window is frozen and won't open. What do I do?". Husband texts back "Gently pour luke warm water over it and tap lightly with a hammer." Ten minutes later she texts back. "Computer really messed up now. What do I do?"

Before the cup of coffee even touched the table, my brother told the waitress, "Take it back. It's cold."
The waitress poured him another cup and returned a minute later, only to be told once again, "Take it back. It's cold."

My brother said, "Because, with the first two, your thumb was in the coffee."
