Thanks kdm -- sounds like the one I have -- I have a wav that sounds like it, too. Maybe there'll be something closer to source that sounds better. It could be that's the way the transcription was and it's all we'll have

Old Time Radio Show Requests - Page 24 Empty Re: Old Time Radio Show Requests

Post by kschriever 11/19/2019, 1:32 pm

Hi, folks... I'm looking for the following NETWORK, 1-hour special broadcast of the Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy show (NOT the half-hour AFRS abridgement). Thanks!

The Charlie McCarthy Show. January 24, 1943. NBC net, KDKA, Pittsburgh aircheck. Sponsored by: Chase and Sanborn Coffee. A special one hour broadcast in honor of the Quartermaster Corps and Standard Brands' Peekskill, New York plant being awarded an Army-Navy "E" Award. The show starts with Don Ameche singing the song of the Quartermaster Corps. Edgar tries to talk Charlie into taking piano lessons from guest Jose Iturbi. Don Ameche and Jeanette MacDonald appear in, "Pick-Up," by Adelyn Bushnell and Marshall Bradford. Jeanette MacDonald sings, "The Marine Corps Hymn" and other service songs. Dale Evans and The Sportsmen sing, "Out Of This World." Deputy Chief of Staff Joseph McNierny speaks from Washington, D.C. Charlie and Jeanette compare notes about freckles. A visit to "McCarthy's Last Chance Beauty Saloon." Jose Iturbi plays the 11th Hungarian Rhapsody by Franz Liszt and Gershwin's first and third Preludes. The commercials are all tributes to the Quartermaster Corps. This program is Pat Patrick's last appearance before entering the army. Edgar Bergen, Don Ameche, Jeanette MacDonald, Adelyn Bushnell, Marshall Bradford, Dale Evans, The Sportsmen, Joseph McNierny, Pat Patrick, Jose Iturbi. 59:33. Audio condition: Very good to excellent. Complete.

I just learned that there is a 5-minute excerpt from the original BBC 1953 run of Journey Into Space which exists (might have been a bonus on a now-unavailable Cd release)- it's the only existing audio from the original version of the series - does anyone happen to have this?

Post by dbf 11/30/2019, 4:23 pm

OK, how about this one? Does anyone have an Eddie Cantor Show where he buys a race horse "Bright Eyes"? I used to have it taped from an AM rebroadcast back in the 80s and listened to it a lot (the only Cantor show I ever heard), but it has vanished with time... The only reference I found to it is in Goldin, which appears to be a 1956 rerun as the show - 25th radio anniversary in radio starting in 1922 would place the show in 1947/8....

93994. The Eddie Cantor Show. 1956. Program #89. ZIV Syndication. Commercials added locally. Jimmy plans to lose 40 pounds on a diet. It's Eddie's 25th anniversary on radio (they must be counting programs on which he starred, his actual first appearance on radio was 1922). The first tune is, "When Your Lover Has Gone." Eddie has been given a horse named, "Bright Eyes." The date is approximate. Eddie Cantor, Jimmy Wallington, Patti Lewis (vocal), Ronnie Harris (vocal). 24:15. Audio condition: Very good to excellent. Otherwise complete.
