Today in Suspense history:
September 21
1944 The Bluebeard of Bellac
1950 The Crowd (Ray Bradbury didn't like they way his story was adapted, but I think it's one of Suspense's best episodes)
1953 The Empty Chair
1958 No Hiding Place
Other copies of this program have the commercials removed.

Today in Suspense history:
September 24
1951 The McKay College Basketball Scandal (original title was The Losing Game of Frederick Hudson; the copy in circulation has always had bad wow and flutter in the closing announcements)
1961 The Man in the Fog
Today's episode has always circulated in unsatisfying sound. Finding a complete version took a lot of looking!

Tomorrow is the last of this batch of upgrades -- we'll take a 3-4 day break for three episodes of The Big Story and one episode of The Whistler. Then we'll be back with more Suspense including a blockbuster upgrade of a recording that has been around only as a bad wire recording. Stay tuned...

Jack Johnstone turned out the lights on "the day the Golden Age of Radio died," September 30, 1962. He wrote the YTJD aired that day, and also this Suspense under the name "Jonathan Bundy."
Reruns of Suspense and YTJD were offered by CBS to the stations that wanted them. From my examination of radio timetables, Suspense lasted perhaps a year, or less, from the newspapers that I have access to. I can find YTJD listings going into 1966, and then disappearing from the airwaves.
No Suspense for the next four days, but three The Big Story and one The Whistler coming up. And then we're back to Suspense with some really nice recordings, including one that replaces a bad wire recording that we've suffered with for decades, starring one of OTR's favorite actors.
