As far as wrong dates go, Lights Out is probably the biggest mess in OTR. Arch Oboler had 11 different series from the 1930s to the 1970s and reused stories and titles. Also, collectors in the days of tape started cutting and pasting the wrong openings and closings to shows to "fix" them. Also the shows were reissued in the 1980s by Metacom with modern openings by Arch Oboler.

At the risk of stepping on a road apple, I have two observations.

1. This is the same show that the OTRRlibrary has listed as August 31, 1943 [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

except the OTRRlibrary version begins with the voice of Arch Oboler saying "Metacom presents...." So, I believe this is an older (1930s-1940s) Lights Out with a modern 1980s opening by Metcom/Arch Oboler.

2. Dave Goldin says this "11267. Lights Out. August 31, 1943. Program #13. CBS net origination, syndicated rebroadcast. "The Immortal Gentleman". Commercials added locally. A man finds himself in the far future, where eternal life is commonplace and not very much appreciated. Syndicated program name: "The Devil and Mr. O." The story is also known as, "Live Forever." So he gives Franchot Tone and two possible dates. I don't know which date is likelier. I think the comments about it being syndicated on The Devil and Mr. O are wrong by the way.

TL;DR I think this is (insert hedging modifier here) likely from August 31 1943 or June 14, 1939 with a 1980s modern introduction by Arch Oboler distributed by cassette distributor Metacom.

If anyone has anything more definite please speak up.

This one is actually Arch Oboler's Plays, from June 17, 1939. It has the tacked-on Lights Out opening from Oboler's 1964 rebroadcasts. The original Lights Out broadcast of "Immortal Gentleman" is not know to exist.

Jerry has Edmond O'Brien as the star of Arch Oboler's Plays June 17, 1939. This one stars Franchot Tone. ???

After a little more digging, it seems that Franchot Tone was on the Arch Oboler's Plays episode of February 14, 1941. Either way, this is not a Lights Out episode.

Well, two different bears got into our trash last night.  At midnight and 4am. The second scattered trash all over the place. I don't want to complain to the forest service because they announced a new program called "A fed bear is a dead bear". If we complain, they hire a professional hunter to kill the bears. I'd rather pick up after them, but this is four times this week YUCK. The reason is, according to the forest service, the bears are becoming more aggressive. Two homes were damaged last week.

76 years ago today: Kraft Music Hall 450816 Edward Everett Horton, guests Connie Boswell, Phil Brito, Lorane Martin. (Anyone know how Ms Martin's first name is spelled?)

A man was putting up a knotty pine wall in the living room. His young son was curious.
“What are those holes for?” he asked.
“They’re knotholes,” replied the father.
“If they’re not holes,” the boy asked puzzled, “then what are they?”

Goldin lists it as Luray Martin. Sounds like it could be Laray. Can't find anything else.

Yeah, I found a male Luray Martin but nothing else. Apparently she was famous for whistling but that led nowhere either.
