Concerts Under The Stars. July 24, 1948. Program #78. NBC Pacific net, KFI origination, AFRS rebroadcast. The concert is referred to as "MGM Night," as the performers were in some way connected to the studio. The first selection is the overture to, "The Bartered Bride" (Smetana). Lionel Brrymore narrates his own composition, "Halloween Suite." Lionel narrates (from a wheelchair) lyrics that were written by Dailey Paskman. After Mario Lanza sings, the applause is long and loud. "We think that (Lanza) will go far in his singing career. AFRFS program name: "Hollywood Bowl Concerts." The AFRS music fill and system cue have been deleted. There is some musical overlap. I have to agree with otrhead's first comment about the "Superstition" series saying that it was a fun show. I will say I preferred the earlier to the later shows but I was shocked at how good the sound quality was for something almost 80 years old.
