Note the comment about Ross Murray. When his Case History of a Gambler
was performed in 1951 (recently posted here), he was "fired" for the evening!
With the excitement of his first script being broadcast now out of the way,
and his second (Flight of the Bumble Bee from May 1952 with Fred MacMurray),
he can be "trusted" with his usual assignment. Murray would write five more scripts.

The circulating recordings of this episode has always had the disc skip -- I thought it was time to document it in case a new recording is ever found -- or if someone has the disc as an incentive to re-record it.

I found another 32kps online set of Suspense [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] that pre-dated the OTRR set, recorded from someone's reel collection, which is probably from the 1980s. Like nearly all of the sets from that era, there are many mislabeled and misdated programs. I'm almost done going through it and found five more of those horribly edited AFRTS episodes from the late 1970s/80s, one AFRS with different announcements for 19 Deacon Street, and four recordings of various shows from 1959+ that have extra music or commercials or some other detail. The life of a Suspense completist never ends.
It is strange going through these series and thinking what we considered to be good sound at that time.
It's also a reminder that Suspense is probably the most recorded program of the golden era, with numerous versions through more decades than any other.
Had a phone chat with with a long-time Suspense collector who was recounting many of the recordings that were available from the final New York period. Many were airchecks from Durham, NC, Texas, and other stations beside the WROW Albany, NY area (probably made by a young collector in the area, Pat Rispole, whom I have mentioned many times earlier). Over the years those recordings have disappeared and fallen out of circulation or collectors "fixing" the recordings have edited commercials and station IDs out. This is why it's so important to find old reel and cassette collections. Many of the recordings of that period have been so overprocessed and have been complicated by encoding artifacts that starting with a fresh substandard recording is actually a good thing.
When we finally get there, there are 20 upgrades from this era that will be posted. In the meantime, we have another 60 to go of the Hollywood shows -- and there are more sets for me to review in the meantime that might end up delaying those 1959-1962 recordings being posted.
I still find this process so amazing. Had a chat with collector Ryan Ellett, who with others is picking up the pieces of OTRR since its founder died. He visits Cobalt often, and he said "you'll always be working on Suspense, won't you?" when the topic was the timing of a potential replacement of the current OTRR set and how that might be done. I had to think a bit before I answered "I guess so." For a second there I couldn't figure out if I was happy or sad about that. As some of you know I study karate (Okinawan Shorin-Ryu in the Shorinkan style; I didn't start until I was 45, and it's been marvelous, hence the nickname "greybelt"), and the think we always tell students is part of becoming a black belt is not the end of your work but a step to realizing how much you'll never know, and that's what keeps you studying and practicing. I guess this is the almost same thing. Suspense is an onion that when peeled layer by layer keeps getting bigger.

UPDATE
I got tired of figuring out where all my Suspense stuff was so I gave in and did one of those free Google sites. Enjoy!

Here are two copies of the same program, one from the reel tape with minor adjustment and one with extra processing to reduce background noise.

Re: Suspense Upgrades
This is an upgrade, but there is a second copy here with a little more processing. The second half has a pickup in noise -- I have to figure out where that begins and see if I can work on it and still get the overall sound to match. But this is a little better for now.
