I'm just catching up again after dealing with setting up a new computer from scratch, moving all my business and other files, and dealing with all sorts of driver issues. On the bright side, I now have a great internet connection since I got on the Starlink beta. What a huge difference in speed. I'm getting 4-20 times my old connection speed which makes downloading things so much more enjoyable.

Thanks again for posting these Tom. If you are still aksing for ideas and feel the urge to do kids shows again, lasombra got me interested in Superman and I would love to upgrade my collection and listen to better quality than what I have. Jungle Jim might be another good idea. Both are fun. I really enjoyed the experience of the daily episodes when you did the others like Captain Midnight and our favourite Ace of the Airways.

p.s. The icicle photo was really great though we are too cold to form icicles up here at the moment. Monday was at -36 C (-33F) with a wind chill of -55 C (-67F). Today has a high of -21 so I expect at least one person to be showing up in shorts at the store again. We had one come in last week at -30. Even Canadians think this is crazy.

Happy Valentine's Day. It's a great day for a Love Tales Ep09 Nangpur Interlude:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

An English landlady was dating two of her tenants, both playwrights. She could not determine which of them to marry, so she decided to let fate decide for her. She baked five of her famous round flat wheatcakes and put poison in one of them, deciding to marry the survivor.
However, the two playwrights twisted fate on her when they split the last one, the poisoned one. They both died.
The police arrested her for "... killing two bards with one scone."

I've been sharpening pencils for the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. Our goal this year is the same as last year, 1500 boxes. Ten pencils per box equals 15,000 pencils to sharpen. I listen to OTR while I'm working. I probably drive Carolyn crazy because I turn the volume up really loud to hear the shows over the sharpener LOL. Actually, she loves OTR also.

This overturned semi just happened. The only reason I'm sharing it is because a few of you asked where I lived. In the CHP picture you see a well defined canyon on the left, that's Erskine Creek Canyon. To the right is Bodfish canyon. Our place is up towards the snow level.

Thanks Tom. It was great to see those pictures. The drive you have to make to get anywhere looks like it could be an interesting one if the roads are icy. I'm curious as to what altitude your house is at? The snowline looks like it's a couple of thousand feet up from where that picture was taken.

Jungle Jim is such a fun show. I still think that the best character in the series is Shanghai Lil. She really becomes the true hero in my mind as she saves Jim so often it's funny.

Hi Gordon,

The valley floor is 2500 feet above sea level. We are 1500 feet above that. The mountains with the snow are about 6-8000 feet. The mountains to the north (not seen here) range up 13,000 feet. Most of them at about 10,000 feet.

You're correct, it can get scary with icy roads, some of which are quite steep.

Take care and stay healthy,

Tom

I have to ask about this picture Tom. Was the one you climbed, the one where the person is standing or the tall peak in the background?

I'm also curious how you ended up where you live? It's interesting that a submariner would buy a place away from the ocean, fairly isolated, and at that high altitude. Too many years in a crowded sub?

Hi Gordon,

The mountain I climbed is in the background. Lone Pine peak, the snow capped one in the background.

All of my adult was as an outdoorsman. I have hiked a bit more than 150,000 miles, backpacked more than 15,000 miles, climbed 256 mountains, and slept 3500 plus nights on on the cold hard ground. I loved every minute of it.

The last mountain I climbed was about six or seven years ago. It was Cook Peak in back of our church. The valley floor is about 2500 feet and Cook Peak is just under 6,000 feet.

I was a Scoutmaster for 22 years and a forest service "volunteer Trail Boss" for 18 years. Some of those years were at the same time.

My love is for the sea and the mountains. I guess you could say the outdoors. My grandparents on both sides were Arkansas farmers and I also really love gardening.

My father was a Merchant Marine ship's Captain, but the U.S. Merchant fleet no longer exists and in fact was dying out as I was about to enter it, so I looked elsewhere for work. I ended up as a marketing manager for Pacific Bell (part of ATT).

Take care,

Tom
