The News Parade. March 26, 1933. Program #52. Syndicated by The Marben Advertising Agency, New York City. "Germany reverts to medieval barbarism." This broadcast was heard less than two months after Hitler became Chancellor (January 30, 1933) and 5 days before the boycott of Jewish businesses began (the first governmental anti-semitism in Nazi Germany). The program sounds like a copy "The March of Time" (which went on the air in 1931). The narrator has a booming voice; similar to Westbrook van Voorhis (narrating the "March of Time"). The "news" is dramatized, just as on "The March Of Time." Therefore, this dramatized story of cruelty in Nazi Germany is possibly one of the earliest, if not the earliest revelation of the holocaust on mainstream radio. The series was known to have heard on WMCA in New York City. WEVD and other stations in New York City transmitted in Yiddish and presumably would have gotten the drop on this series. However, there is no evidence that they did, making this the earliest known broadcast about the mis-treatment of Jews by the Nazis. The drama is graphic, starting with Jewish sons and fathers being made to flog each other. Albert Einstein and Rabbi Stephen Wise (one of the founders of Reform Judaism) are impersonated. After "Einstein" speaks, the in-studio orchestra plays "Eli, Eli" and "Hatikva" as transition music! The final 6:21 of the program
