Goldin lists it as Plantation Party but all the intros say Plantation House Party ?

Described by The Encyclopedia of Old-Time Radio as a country music show with corn pone humor, Plantation House Party was on the air from 1938 until 1942.
The show was hosted by Whitey Ford as the Duke of Paducah with Louise Massey and the Westerners providing the music. In addition to his hosting duties, Ford was a writer and comedian on the show. Other groups featured on the show Red Foley, Homer and Jethro and Tom, Dick and Harry.
The show didn''t just feature country music. The music may have a bit of a country twist with electric guitars but it had more of a big band feel as well with xylophones, rich harmonies and some brass. Originally the show was broadcast from Cincinnati but later moved to Chicago. The show started on the Mutual network later moving to NBC Blue and, eventually, to NBC Red.

Benjamin Francis "Whitey" Ford, musician and actor, was born May 12, 1901, in Desoto, Missouri, and died June 20, 1986, in Nashville, Tennessee. In the 1920s he toured the United States with his own Dixie Land jazz band, joined Gene Autry's radio shows "Show Boat" and "Barn Dance," and performed at station KWK in St. Louis where he was nicknamed "Duke of Paducah." Ford joined NBC to do the "Plantation Party" radio shows (1938-1942

he became a regular on Plantation Party, an NBC Radio show in Cincinnati and Chicago

During the late thirties and early 1940s, Ford starred with Louise Massey & the Westerners on the NBC network radio show Plantation Party out of Cincinnati

Consensus seems to favor Plantation Party as the title.

Thanks. It gave me something to do this morning.  Smile

I had never heard of that Pocket Book Mystery program. Was it an audition program? It's unusual for a 39-minute program to be aired on the Mutual network. Also, if someone has the skill to eliminate some of the noise, I'd love to hear a cleaned up copy. Thanks.
