The People's Voice - LA politics Mayoral race A series of shows

Clifford E Clinton, always a promoter of Los Angeles, decided that it should be cleaned up much the same way that New York was being cleaned up by Dewey and LaGuardia. He began a series of investigations into vice and gambling and prostitution. The Grand Jury refused to accept his findings, so he published a minority report, financed a radio program, "The People's Voice," and helped organize CIVIC, the Citizen's Independent Vice Investigating Committee. The culmination of his efforts through this organization was obtaining the recall of Mayor Frank Shaw. Fletcher Bowron, the man whom Clinton supported, became mayor and remained so from 1938 until 1953.

The Phantom Pirate. 1950. "The Phantom Pirate Strikes For Freedom". The ship "Avenger" is led by Captain Caleb Starr and his grandson Rory, who are in danger. The cast sounds like the familiar voices of the WXYZ (Detroit) actors heard on "The Lone Ranger." The date is approximate, possibly an audition. One of the actors sounds like he might be Brace Beemer. "A copyrighted feature of 'The Lester Company.'". Jay Michael, Rollon Parker, Frank Russell, Paul Hughes.

The Phantom Rider. 1946. A Foy Willing and Jack Beekman Enterprise. Possibly an audition recording. Who is, "The Phantom Rider?" Boss Kincaid rules Basin City and plans to extort money from the cattlemen. "Blue Gabbick" has just drifted in from Texas. After ordering a glass of milk in the saloon, Blue quickly gets into a fight with Kincaid's henchman, Gerson. The date is approximate. See cat. #24698 for Dennis Moore appearing on, "All-Star Western Theatre" which uses the same script. Foy Willing ; Tex Ritter; Cottonseed Clark (writer, producer); Jack Beekman;.

From Goldin: Peace Is The Lady With Wings. August 01, 1948. AFRS origination. A program to celebrate the, "Forty-first Anniversary of The Air Force." The "celebration" makes this program hard to date as the "Air Force" has a hard-to-date founding. It was only on September 18, 1947 that the "Air Force" was made independent of the army. A case could be made for this date as its "founding." The Army created, "The Aeronautical Division of The Signal Corps" on August 1, 1907, and so, I've dated this otherwise undated program August 1, 1948. Depending on other chronologies and definitions, other "41st anniversary" dates are possible and likely. Bob Young; Bud Widom; Ben Wright; Tom McKee (announcer); Lloyd Jenkins; Ken Harvey (narrator); Ramsay Hill; Jack Kruschen; Earl Lawrence (composer); Paul McVey; Raymond Roe; Don Messick; Michel Perriere (conductor); Will Scott (producer, director, possibly "Willard Scott"); Curt Reagan; Jerry Sheldon; Daws Butler; Rye Billsbury; Jack Carroll; David Eskin (writer).

Philip Bancroft was born in San Francisco in 1881, the son of Hubert Howe and Matilda Coley Griffing Bancroft. He attended Harvard Law School and Hastings College of the Law, graduating from the latter in 1905. He then established a law practice in San Francisco and soon became interested in politics. In 1908 he was elected a delegate to the Republican National Convention. In 1912 he was elected again to their convention where he became a member of the Progressive National Convention formed to nominate Theodore Roosevelt and Hiram W. Johnson. Following Army service in World War I, he decided to become a full-time farmer on his ranch in Walnut Creek, California. He was a member and officer of numerous agricultural organizations including the Associated Farmers of Contra Costa County, the Contra Costa Walnut Growers' Association and the California Pear Growers' Association. In 1938 and 1944 he was the Republican nominee for the office of United States Senator from California. He died in 1975

Wildcat44, the program you've labeled as The Philip Morris Show is actually the audition for I Want to Come Back, from 1941. I'd like to hear the Philip Morris audition from 12-29-48 if you have it.

you are so right. I do not have The Philip Morris Show anywhere.
I found the problem. One I didn't listen to it entirely and two I trusted the labeling I had .

Thanks for keeping me on my toes. I promise I'll be more diligent.  Very Happy
