Thanks for posting those Jungle Jim's even if you have nothing exciting to say about them, :-)

Here's a little bit I found on the show and the actors. It says that Gerald Mohr acted the part in 1938 but it sure doesn't sound like him to me. Could it be a typo? Personally, I always thought the brains of the outfit was Shanghai Lil and she is my favourite character.

Syndicated by Hearst and sponsored by the Comic Weekly, The Adventures of Jungle Jim radio series premiered November 2, 1935. Matt Crowley had the title role for three years, until Gerald Mohr stepped in as Jungle Jim beginning April 24, 1938. Vicki Vola and Franc Hale portrayed Shanghai Lil, and Juano Hernandez was the Hindu servant Kolu.

I found a couple of articles about how to "de-window 11." Windows 7 was a great operating system, a relief from the bloated Vista, and it even got me to stop using Linux. Windows 8 was icky poo, but 10 was good and 11 has been really stable.
This article should help a lot

I had to buy a new desktop about a year ago....I don't know about America, but I couldn't find one computer here that still had a CD/DVD player! It didn't come with Windows anything but I had to buy the disc & luckily my Stepdaughter knew a good PC guy who installed it......took him 6 hours. I get notifications about once a month that I'm not able to upgrade to 11....of course I never get a reason. Very frustrating at times

(sigh) Well, if 11 is indeed considered "stable" at this point I guess I better find some cycles to upgrade from 10 soon. Hate being an early adopter but as Lasombra's finding, getting too far behind the curve carries its own risks.

I want your help for a little project of mine. I've been talking OTR to some neighbors that have never heard OTR. I want to put together a thumb drive for them with a variety of shows that will grab there interest.

I want your thoughts on specific episodes of your favorite series that I can include on the drive.

Post your favorites here (this will save me having to get them from my scattered collection), or just post the series and episode and I'll get them from my collection.

Thanks in advance for your help.

A question for Toebig... do your non-OTR friends enjoy movies? Are they TCM viewers on their cable or satellite systems? If so, some selected Screen Director's Playhouse might be good for them since most of that series is great sound.

And of course, my favorites are Suspense episode Three O'Clock, and the Escape episodes Shipment of Mute Fate and Leiningen versus the Ants. If they like "mild sci-fi", the Dimension X episode Time and Time Again is always one of my favorites.

What is their age group? That may play a role in their comedic interests and what you might select from there.

Great suggestions Greybelt.

They are in their late 40's early 50's, empty nesters now. They do seem to like film noir etc.

I was looking forward to your suggestions on Suspense, YTJD and Escape.

I'm also looking forward to suggestion for the following series:

Gunsmoke
Jack Benny
Fibber
Nick Carter
Lone Ranger
Shadow
Dragnet
Bing Crosby
Lux
Bold Venture
Box 13
Mysterious Traveler
Rocky Jordan
Phil Harris, Alice Faye

Just to mention a few.

Thanks

Toebig -- perhaps these will help.....

FOR THOSE NEW TO CLASSIC RADIO -- Some Casey Crime Photographer recommendations

1946-12-19 Christmas Shopping
Nice flirty interplay with Casey and Ann, almost like Moonlighting
Ethelbert’s attempt to get a Christmas tree for the Blue Note

1947-02-20 Twenty-Minute Alibi
A non-Cole script by one of best writers of The Big Story series

1947-03-20 The Demon Miner
Originally scripted for The Shadow, but rejected by Blue Coal
Last available Lesley Woods performance as Ann

1947-05-08 The Laughing Killer
Casey helps someone down on their luck, deceives Logan, and uses one of Cole’s favorite endings: an exploding gun

1947-10-02 Miscarriage of Justice
One of Cole’s best and more complex stories

1947-10-16 The Camera Bug
Casey uses the same plot device that made Call Northside 777 a memorable movie

1947-11-13 Too Many Angels
A non-Cole script has Ethelbert as a backer of a Broadway show that’s mixed up with gangsters

1947-11-20 Earned Reward
Based on an original Coxe story

DON'T LET THEM HEAR THESE -- "THE DOGS OF THE BLUE NOTE" -- they may never talk to you again! Smile

1947-03-06 The Mysterious Lodger, repeated as 1950-11-09 Woman of Mystery
Only redeeming feature is casting of long-time Broadway actress Eva Condon, now at the end of her career, in both broadcasts

1947-10-30 Great Grandfather's Rent Receipt
Re-worked Witch’s Tale episode script Procrastinatin' Willie's Rent Receipt broadcast on 1931-12-21 and 1935-07-10, now wrapped around with Blue Note conversation about Casey's grandfather

1949-01-20 Action Photograph
Good example of the bad things that happened under Toni sponsorship with a sloppy script and disappointing closing

1949-11-10 Thunderbolt
Re-worked Gentle Strangler script made simpler and worse

Maybe it's just because I have the Radiola vinyl release with these two back to back and have listened to them numerous times, but I've always thought Quiet Please's Thing on the Fourble Board and Escape's Three Skeleton Key were two of the best introductions to horror ASMR that I would imagine still feel fresh to someone who isn't as immersed in nostalgic entertainment the way that we are.

These may not be the best quality versions available, but here are my own transfers of those from said Radiola release (as posted elsewhere on this forum):

Quiet, Please - 1948-08-09 - The Thing on the Fourble Board
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Escape - 1949-11-15 - Three Skeleton Key
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The Vincent Price performance of Three Skeleton Key from 1950-03-17 may be a better choice than this original one, but I don't believe I have a copy that's any better than the one in the OTRR set on Archive.org

I haven't dug too deeply into Escape (I really should!) but I've always also been partial to Evening Primrose, although some may find it corny.

Something from the 5-parter run of YTJD might be neat, although they're all a bit mashed together in my head so I can't think of a specific serial to suggest.
