Bond Drive For The Cruiser Los Angeles. June 30, 1943. NBC net, KDKA, Pittsburgh aircheck. Sustaining. The program originates from the Hollywood Bowl. Ceremonies for the cruiser (keel laying? launching?), hosted by Edward G. Robinson. Bing Crosby sings, "As Time Goes By." A combined servce band, led by Coast Guard Lieutenant Rudy Vallee, plays a medley of navy songs (with a vocal by Rudy). Cecil B. DeMille makes an extended appeal to buy war bonds to raise $40 million dollars to build the cruiser. Edward G. Robinson (host), Bing Crosby, Rudy Vallee, Dinah Shore, Ken Carpenter (announcer), Cecil B. DeMille, Frank Knox (Secretary of The Navy), Kathryn Grayson.

The Mad Hatterfields. 1939. World transcription. An audition recording of the program in a half-hour format. A writer named John Edwards visits the Hatterfields and is introduced to the members of the family (an excellent idea for an audition program). Rollie exclaims, "Great Caesar's Ghost" three times during the program, which might explain where Perry White (editor of "The Daily Planet") first heard the expression. The date is approximate.
