Hopefully someone else can contribute.

Man's Right to Knowledge
December 26, 1954
"Prospects in the Arts and Sciences"

In this 1954 talk, J. Robert Oppenheimer surmises that today's pressing questions "will be transmuted before they are answered" and that "the very process of discovery will shatter the concepts that we today use to describe our puzzlement." "Prospects in the Arts and Sciences" is the topic of this broadcast observing the bicentennial of Columbia University. In it, Oppenheimer shies away from making predictions about the future. Instead, the theoretical physicist gives his view of the responsibility and predicament of the scientist and artist in today's world, lamenting how both professions have grown increasingly isolated from the society at large. This thoughtful and pithy, if somewhat bleak, address ends with the wistful hope that even when confronting "the all-encompassing dark…we can love one another."

Max Haines Mystery Hall of Fame. "Albert Guay". Haines was known as North America's Foremost True Crime Reporter. Although he didn't begin his column in the Toronto Sun until 1972, he collected a marvelous assortment of murder stories. The case of Albert Guay, an adulterous jeweler in Quebec, involves a conspiracy to murder Guay's wife using dynamite in her suitcase as she flies on a Canadian Pacific Airliner. This will allow him to collect her insurance, avoid a divorce (which was impossible to get in Catholic Quebec) and elope with his teenage girlfriend. 23 people died on the plane and Guay won a date with a rope.

The McCoy. April 22, 1951. "Three Wayward Girls". NBC audition. Howard Duff appears as a private eye in a fast-paced murder yarn with snappy dialogue. The characterizations and format are almost identical to "The Adventures Of Sam Spade" which by a not-so-strange coincidence went off the air April 27, 1951. The program may be dated April 24, 1951. The script was subsequently used on, "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar" on January 16, 1953 (see cat. #75818). A Hollywood starlet has been strangled with a black silk stocking. A second starlet is killed and a third murder is planned. Morton Fine (writer, director, producer), Walter Schumann (composer, conductor), Sheldon Leonard, Howard Duff, David Friedkin (writer, director, producer).
