Mayor Impellitteri's Christmas Party for Handicapped and Underprivileged Children, at City Hall
December 23, 1950

Party for over 200 of New York's underprivileged children, brought to City Hall by buses for "Christmas merry-making" from five area hospitals, one from each borough. Each received a boxed lunch, stocking, and Christmas hats, candy, and noisemakers. There is also a stack of "mysterious" Christmas packages. The children await the arrival of Santa while the reporter describes the decorations and entertainment. Mayor Impellitteri gives a speech, thanks the organizers and performers, and introduces Santa, who talks to the children and leads them in a Christmas song set to the tune of "Happy Birthday." A doctor talks briefly and the children sing the same Christmas song to Mrs. Impellitteri. Then the children are told to line up for presents. They ask questions about the reindeer. The reporter describes the chaotic scene.
