We had a bear and a family of raccoons on our porch last night. These are the first animals we've had since the fires started. The bear was very skinny and easily scared. He did come back after we startled him. He was that hungry.

From Goldin: Louie's Hungry Five. October 10, 1931. Program #310. WGN, Chicago origination, syndicated by The Tribune Company, Chicago. Commercials added locally. Opening announcement: "After walking the streets for hours the boys finally located a hotel, all registered, and put up for the night. As the scene opens tonight we find them all seated in their room at the hotel. Here they are!" Closing announcement: "It looks as though Herr Louie made up the Weasel's mind to go to breakfast before calling his sweetheart, Jennie. Herr Louie, the Weasel, and the rest of Louie's Hungry Five is presented by..." The band plays what sounds like, "The Anniversary Waltz" (however, that popular tune wasn't published until 1941, this was perhaps a similar sounding melody). Henry Moeller, Hal Gilles.

From Goldin: The Boulevard Of Make-Believe. 1931. Program #1. Radio Release Ltd. syndication. Music fill for local commercial insert. The program's theme and fill music is a sweetly played, "The Boulevard Of Broken Dreams." A serial drama set behind the scenes of the movie industry in Hollywood. Both of the program's leads were actually "silent era" film stars. Anna gives a new actress named Betty some good advice. Who is Mr. Bishop? The actress playing Louise, the colored maid, is atrocious! One of the performers sounds more Transylvanian than Bela Lugosi, even though he's supposed to be a Mexican! Could it be Bela? This program may well have been recorded before the sound film of "Dracula" made Lugosi famous. Listen especially to the really elegant announcer. The date is approximate. Anna Q. Nilsson, Viola Dane, Bela Lugosi (an intriguing possibility).

Thanks for sharing these lasombra but it appears they are not the correct episodes and must be misnumbered. #31 is actually #33 (which Tom just posted) where Marco returns to the Khan with a bandit chief and accuses Achmed the Magician of treachery. #32 is an earlier episode when Vanchu attacks the palace and captures Marco.

What a difference 32kbps makes in reducing the quality of the listening experience. It really stands out in this show compared to some others.
