I found some stuff on the Dixie Symphony Singers at EarlyBlues.com. Copyright will not let me copy it.

It's an article by Max Haymes called History and Mystery.

It's in the History section than Blues Essays.

Kay Kyser's orchestra, in Washington, D.C., plays "Praise The Lord and Pass The Ammunition." George Burns and Gracie Allen do a routine based on the housing shortage, Edgar Bergen tries to borrow Charlie's bicycle. Ronald Colman is featured in a war drama set in North Africa. Jane Darwell and Mercedes McCambridge appear in a skit about that feared telegram from the war department. Bing Crosby sings, "Get On The Road To Victory." James Cagney introduces Secretary of The Treasury Henry Morgenthau, who speaks from the White House. At the conclusion of the program, President Roosevelt makes an appeal (described elsewhere as a "Fireside Chat") to participate in the War Loan. An excellent wartime broadcast. Don't Cheat Uncle Sam. March 12, 1939. Program #3. A.T. and T. syndication, KTVS, Shreveport aircheck. "Needlework". 5:30 P.M. The political career of a newspaper owner is in jeopardy. Word has gotten around that his wife has been buying narcotics from, "Magda." The acting and production is marginal at best. The writing is atrocious! A.T.&T. is never mentioned during the program (a wise move on their part). One wonders why the telephone company (or "Uncle Sam" for that matter) would want to be associated with this broadcast. Marjorie Lyons, Edward Murphy, Fred Scott (announcer), Ellen Lee Brashier (writer), Jane Butticher, Joanna Lee, Grace Smith, Edwin McClure, Richard B. Roach, George Grustadt.

Don't You Believe It. October 5, 1946. CBS net. Sponsored by: Vano Liquid Starch, Vano Liquid Cleanser. The pygmies are not the smallest people on Earth (there are people in Tibet only two feet tall!). Labor unions did not invent picketing (the Earl of Essex invented it three hundred years ago). Cleopatra was not a beautiful woman (she was very ugly). Marshal Zhukov was not the leading General of the Russian armies (it was Boris Shipatnikov). Gordon T. Hughes (director), Sid Singer (writer), Tobe Reed (host), Del Castillo (organ), Joe Walker (announcer), Crain Chamberlain (creator).
